Barb, do you mean in the right info box? Shoot me a cmail and I can walk you through it.

To all of you lamenting your snowbound clems... I got an email from Louise (venu209) yesterday that her "Evey clems" (the 4-inch ones from last summer) were showing leaves now, popping out. YAY! Spring truly is coming, even up north. I can't wait!

This is a lovely (if I say so myself) shot of a planting combination I saw at Longfellows greenhouses when I lived in Maine. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the clematis.. The Penstemon is Husker's Red. I do miss that place! Visiting got me through the Maine winters!

Sue, if I am not mistaken, that lovely clematis could be Josephine. Love it with that Penstemon!

Hey, Sue, every time I open this thread and see Autumn Sunset with Warsaw Nike, I catch my breath. I want to do a similar combination, but I haven't been able to find Autumn Sunset anywhere. Did you buy it locally or online?

Josephine almost looks like a Dahlia on a vine . . .

I bought mine locally, many places here to chose from. Any good rose nursery ought to carry this climber.
There are tons of online nurseries too. I just checked HMF listing and there's a nursery in your town that supposed to carry it!

I didn't realize that our local nursery, Molbaks, had it. I'll check in with them next time I'm down there. I haven't been so impressed with their selection in the past, but I haven't really asked for anything specific.

I am looking at Rogue Valley, though (shame on you!), and they have them. Now I think I neeeeed an arbor for my new display. Heh heh.

I did join Help Me Find and am getting my bearings there.

Sue, HMF does have a clematis section, but I find their choices are really limited. About half of the ones I currently carry are not listed there at all... and some of the ones that are listed have incorrect info. That's part of what inspired me to go ahead and create a database here. Currently, you really need multiple sources when looking for clem info (though I hope to change that by compiling it all here!). I currently look at Clematis on the Web, HMF and one or two other sources when selecting clems.

HMF is unrivaled, though, with their roses database!

Yes, I did notice it was really limited and I often forget they even have that clematis database. I suspect it was started because they do go so well together with roses.

Shame on you guys - now I'm looking around for a wrought iron arch for the garden that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and trying to figure out where to put it . . .

If you want an arch, check out the suggestions in the thread about wrought iron arches. Some great designs and ideas there. Even though I sell the Dura-trel, wrought iron is still my favorite material for arches and arbors. (Maybe that's because of the New Orleans influence in my garden...?)

evey this next week i am going to make a new forum entitled something like plant databases. would you come over and place a link for your clematis database when i do? i am going to try to have links over on mamajack's so people can see plants they are looking to buy. it would be easier to have one spot on my site for that for people who are wanting to buy as it would save them time looking plants up. it would be free advertising for you too. would you do it?

Thanks, Evey. I did see those. I'm thinking of an arch you can walk through. I did look at the arches you have, but I have the same liking for wrought iron that you do.

The same place here that has the roses has arches, but they are generally 20% more expensive than anyone else. So I go there to get the manufacturer names and then start looking around.

Did you see how I created the walk-through spaces for the Secret Garden? (Take a peek in my Garden Tour.) I used a 10x10 patio awning kit that I purchased on clearance at WalMart to create one structure for the entrance and a second structure over the church pew. They've worked very well.

Yes, I was amazed at that - it's a great reuse of materials. I do keep my eye open for stuff like that, but I have to say that your "conversion" was a stroke of genius.

Thanks! The mosquito curtain that came with it was handy too... I have it hung around the covered porch by our pool. I think the awning cover will eventually be used hanging from the oak tree when (future) grandchildren come to visit. We could suspend it from the center and stake out the corners to make a makeshift "fort" for lots of summertime fun!
