Here's the front. I made these two windows and they can be opened to let plenty of airflow through. The front faces the south which is the direction from which our prevailing winds flow.

Very pro job! It looks like you have done this often enough before, or studied so many other designs, that you won't ever have to say "I wish we had done THIS differently!)

Just one thing: The South wall would look great if you added a nose and a big smile under the two windows.

Maybe some eyebrows on the eaves ...

Thanks Rick, and believe me: weeks ago I talked to Trish and told her I was going to paint the coop to be a face with the two windows as eyes and she would have none of that. Hilarious!

I went ahead and built new nest boxes this afternoon, and installed them. They're made of scraps of plywood I had left over from the walls. Each opening is 14x14x14 and it fits perfectly under the roosts. I'm really happy with how this turned out:

Carrying the chickens from their old place to the new one!!

Inspecting the new roost:

and, of course, most of the chickens hid under the roost area. I may have to close that off to prevent them from going under there.

They are curious and uncertain but by tomorrow they'll know this is home.

Here's the timer. Sorry for no plate being on the power yet. Nobody is allowed to touch this except me. Next time I'm in town I promise I'll buy a faceplate. Smiling

Just don't put up a sign saying "Do not touch the hot circuits! That draws people almost as much as a "Wet Paint" sign does.

>> was going to paint the coop to be a face with the two windows as eyes and she would have none of that.

Yes, women have to keep us from being silly. It's a big job, but SOMEONE has to do it!

Thanks for all the pictures. It's really great to see the family doing things, not just beautiful buildings appearing magically between one photo and the next.

>> They are curious and uncertain but by tomorrow they'll know this is home.

I thought the white was saying "what the heck did we DO to deserve all this luxury??"

And the one with the red flaps was muttering "Whaaat, did we die and go to heaven?? What d' ya think the room rate is in this swank place?"

My dad visited us over the weekend and since he's a pilot he always takes us flying during his trips. While up I took a pretty good photo of our chicken yard:

Thumb of 2014-01-14/dave/79bd9b

You can clearly see the brown area where the chickens have been. They've eaten all the grass. On my TODO is to finish putting up the rest of the fencing so I can start rotating them into other pens!

Very cool! Great photo...guess the chickens ran inside thinking that plane was a giant hawk though, eh? Hilarious!

I was wondering where the chickens were!

The cows, on the other hand, just looked up and wondered what in the world we were doing! Hilarious!

Heheheh, yeh, cows are like that! Observant!

I rode a cow once, when I was a kid and didn't know any better. The cow observed me on its back and took off running for dear life, finally running into a pond to dump me off. Cows are smart in some ways, aren't they?

Next time up in that plane get a pic of your new greenhouse, Dave. All the new construction going on at your farm is exciting to me. (edited for spellin')

Riding a cow! Well, I can't say that I don't also have some experience in this area! Whistling

I did get a greenhouse shot, too. You can see it at the greenhouse thread: The thread "Harbor Freight Greenhouse projects" in Greenhouses forum
