@dave I was worried what keeps others from using the un-watermarked images in the database, like the ones we use from other sources, like nurseries, etc.

Like I said above, nothing can prevent them from doing it.

But when they do it they can be told to take it off. Stealing is wrong and using someone else's photo without their permission is stealing.

If the images can be lifted from the original site, nothing prevents someone from lifting them from here, other than they can't directly copy from an enlarged database image. It can be copied from the thumbnail versions or if they are posted in a thread. Anything posted to the www. is fair game to the unscrupulous. Shrug!

More than that, if the photo appears on your screen you can take a screenshot of the whole screen and then crop the image. This is why there is literally nothing you can do to prevent theft of images, except to follow up with threatening emails and contacting the admin team of the site where the image was posted.

I can do that, Lynn! and thanks for everyone's feedback.
I did want to answer ZuZu's question about connection to Etsy. I am a member but wasn't sure how that would affect/or lead to someone's selling venue by clicking on a button to show original site of image. Maybe like Sue said, it was a Google glitch that happened twice yet going to the same selling venue... Confused

I did a tineye.com search of the image you said was on etsy and it turned up 0 results, which mean they did not find anyone using that photo on the internet. One possibility is that you have some sort of malware on your computor. A couple of weeks ago I ran into a problem with malware and they would insert ads and images on web pages that looked like they were part of that page, but they weren't. When I visited ATP I would see contextual ads and even image ads that were obviously not from ATP. I also saw ads inserted in google search results that were not part of google, but they were embedded in such a way that they appeared to be.

Lynn,

If you have used another person (or company's) image on ATP, it should have *their* watermark on it. Vic and Sue work with Dave to include the company's watermark in the photos that those companies have given permission for us to use.
So, it is not enough to simply turn off your watermark and upload other's images. There are other steps. This insures that everyone's rights are protected.

The ones added for Wild Ginger Farm don't have watermarks. Like this one.

I have only added credit or watermarks if asked. When I contact them, I always give them examples of the options available.

I think I see what you are talking about Sue. You have a special watermark done up for the photos you are adding?

Not really a watermark for mine, just labeled with name of plant, my name and year taken. I need to go back to doing them that way.

Like I said, only when they opt for it. I will either use the ATP watermark that goes across the photo or type up an option, like Joy did here: I rather like this way better than a watermark and think I will use it from now on. That way, they also show up this way with any Google image search.

Lynn- if there are photos in the database that need credit to be given to them, we will need to know about that.

They have credit Trish, some just don't have a watermark. I didn't know about doing that way back when I added them to the database.
