I thought I have bought an excessive amount of irises. But considering that I am 75, single, still working for the government--yes, it is shutdown now, and I only have 1/8 of an acre, minus my house and deck, it is a still a lot of irises, plus I have previous planted irises too. I saw some of the irises that I would like to have, but are either not available, or too expensive. I wanted Light Within and some others--

I bought from several places. And I have NEVER bought so many---

About lawn. I do not have a lawn. I have hired a company 2 years ago to cover all except the ones with roses and irises with weed barrier and mulch, so I do not have a lawn to mow. Guess what? My neighbor in the back of my house has 1 butterfly bush, Buddleja, and I had to pull so many volunteers, it was not funny. I gave about 6 plants to friends who wanted them and managed to get rid of the rest after a big storm, they were all growing among my roses, no weed barriers there. Now I recognize the very young ones, and pulled them out. Both my neighbors left and right of me have Crepe Mytles, and they also think my mulched ground is nice, so I had to pull lots and lots of volunteers. Maybe I have pulled 500 or more. I still have some left. I did not see them, so they grew too big, have to wait for a lot of rain to be able to pull them out. I also have from my right neighbor, Rose of Sharon and Black Walnuts. The squirrels are very busy finding the nuts and planting them. I have collected a bucket and offered them to the owner of the tree, and he said, SOME People eat them, but I don't. Almost all the nuts fall on my property. And the rose of sharon bushes are the worst, because they are all leaning towards the sun, which is on my side (because he has that big crepe myrtle) and seeded a lot of plants that I also have to pull out. What really helps, is the weed barrier, so most of them are easy to pull out, because the roots are shallow. The ones that are harder to pull out are the ones that grow in the soil withour the weed barriers.--Then my neighbor to my left has a huge maple tree which also gave lots of little ones on my property. That is the problem living so close to the neighbors.

I am proud to say that I have been weeding and planting myself, except deep holes for the roses. I hired a young strong son of a friend to do 6 of them for me after I had done 9 myself over several weeks. Another problem with the holes for the roses are the big pieces of concrete debris that a construction worker had buried in the ground instead of dumping them away from the property. He also pulled the weed barriers away and added sphagnum moss and Promix for me. Piece of cake for him. Fortunately irises are easier to plant. Nobody told me to buy all those roses and irises! All my fault. Now I have to do some weeding too. Some of my roses did not make it this year--not enough sun and not enough water, under those rose of sharon. I have to cut those branches over my properties.----

Sorry it is such a long tale.

That's a really nice bunch of irises you have ordered. They should look really nice. Be sure to post pictures of them next spring, we will all be watching for them.

Hi all, thanks for your input. At least I have chosen good ones, just hope they all will bloom next year. Although I only get the bonus that I deserved, no other extras--I guess it is because I am not a judge, I am impressed with the size of rhizomes from Schreiner's. I promise I will take pictures and I certainly would post some pictures if someone tells me how to do it. I have a Mac. I clicked on the "Upload an image" but I still do not know how to do it. I know how to share pictures on emails and put them in Facebook. I have Aperture on my Mac, do I export the picture? I tried "drag and drop" but it did not work either.

I do not even know how to use those cute things at the bottom of the page, and how to put the symbols of what I like.

Mary Ann, I love your iris. I hope it is one that I have ordered, or is part of those on my list of next order. It looks familiar. But: where to plant them is the question. Does someone has Lighted Within. I think it is so beautiful. I ordered that one and it was sold out. I definitely want to order that one.

Thank you Tante -- my avatar Iris is *Sultry Mood* -- and I love it!!

In order to use the icons at the bottom of the page, you simply move your curser to the one that you want -- the curser should change from an arrow to a little hand -- and then you click on it.

My computer is not a Mac, so I don't know how to help you. I know that when I want to add a photograph, I click on the *Upload an Image* button, which brings up a window with photo options in it. I click on the picture that I want, or change the photo options to find the picture that I do want, and click on that. The selected picture then automatically downloads to the post reply window here. Of course, you have to be working in the reply window to begin with, just like I am right now.

I don't know if that will help you or not................ Shrug!

I also meant to add -- I'm surprised that you didn't get any bonuses from Schreiners (right?) Unless you bought on a sale, where sellers limit or eliminate bonuses.

And yes -- Schreiner's sends huge rhizomes -- at least that's been my experience. Thumbs up

Tante.......I'm surprised that you didn't receive many extras/bonuses. To my knowledge the companies that I have dealt with sent gifts with orders to everyone depending on their order. The fact that you are or are not a judge has no influence on this. I have not been one since the 80's. Have you told us where you live? Knowing that aids in the discussions. On my computer I click on "Upload and Image". Then I find the picture I want, click on it and then at the bottom of the page I see the word "open" which I hit and there is the picture. Perhaps someone with a Mac can help you. If there is an iris you really want one suggestion....order early.

My laptop is acting really funny. Very slow. I am not sure what is wrong. Thanks for the tip. I am going to post this first and try the photos later. Schreiner gave me 1 bonus and I think was going to send me an extra one or 2, but sent me a 2013 catalog instead, because they changed the number of 12 to 10 (I think) or 11. They crossed it out. The funny thing is that I already paid for the catalog, so I did not really NEED the extra catalog. So I have 2 catalogs of 2013. Took it to my office to drool at the pictures at lunch! My Starship Enterprise order was cancelled when I received the rhizome because it was sold out when they were preparing my order.
I also ordered from Mid-Americagarden. On my list is I'm all shook up--isn't that a beauty! I received the Beacon of Light as bonus, lucky I have it, I called and T. Johnson was so nice, he said he will find it for me although online it said that it was unavailable. And he also sent me a catalog. I also bought from Country Delight in Utah. They gave me 2 extra ones. Then I also order from Brecks and Michigan Bulb. No extras from them.
My name is Francine and I live in Falls Church (Fairfax County), Virginia. It is hot today--I will try later to post 1 or 2 pictures, if I can. Thank you all for your help. By the way, the earlier irises that I planted: I have to figure out what they are-- I was not careful in putting identifications on them. What kind of name tags are you using?
