FASHION POLICE, MAGIC ATTRACTION, AND WILD CHERRY ROUNDUP are excellent eye and edge parents. UPPERMOST EDGE may be, I haven't used it. I suggest you take these and the other eye and edge plants you get and put them together so you can focus on these. You can get enough seed from these plants to get you started in the right direction.
The next thing you need to do is devise a way to keep up with your cross's and keep good records so you will know which way to go after the first seedlings bloom. All the seedlings will not be great and you only want to work with the better ones, compost the rest.

Thanks for the help Fred. I am so excited about hybridizing and working with daylilies. I will only work with the best of the seedlings and not bother with anything else. Why waste time with the ones that are just ok, when you can concentrate on the beautiful, stronger ones. I'm so glad to read this post and get my spirits up. Once again it's cold and dreary here and we're getting hit with freezing rain. Come on sunshine and prettier days, I need a fix of playing outside with my plants.
I'll probably have tons more questions to ask you and Lyle as it gets closer to blooming season.

I just love this site and how free you are to do things over here!!!
Take care dear gardening friends and try to stay warm.
Love Marian

Fred what is your soil mix again. I need to make some adjustments to mine this spring when I get the raised beds done and want to do it right the first time.

Soil mix is 90% pine bark 10% sand. This works well for us and its also used for potting.

hey fred how often do you fertilize them.because i remember you saying you kind of push them.
And can you do that in the north once warm weather comes on.Give them that push to get more
growth on your seedlings.

I use a liquid 20-5-10 or something close to that once a week, mix 1/2 oz to a gallon of water, or like I do 8oz to 15 gallons. This is sprayed as a foliar feed and mixed at this rate won't burn the plants when the weather warms. You can start using this after your last frost date. I wasn't able to push mine a much as I would like because of another bad winter for us. If we get a 1/2 dozen days below freezing, that's a bad winter here.
