I am on the edge of the zone so I will not try them. It is pretty but there are other things less worry-some. How about strawberry begonias, They tolerate a lot more heat.

I have been checking into these Painted Begonia's or Rex Begonia. They are mostly hardy in zone 9-11 and the foliage is stunning. I am thinking about maybe growing a few next year as an annual if I can get a few at a good price.

My 'Jack Frost is almost that big...in my new shade garden. Before, when planted on the north side of the house they barely stayed alive. Too much hot morning sun on the north side...now they are happy. Even in zone 8, much to my surprise. I keep that new shady garden well-watered, especially in the heat of the summer.

I think this one is supposed to be huge by nature. It should be even bigger than the Jack Frost variety. We will find out soon.

Thanks Evelyn for the advice. I am thinking at this point that I will just go ahead and try one if it worked for you. I have some very nice shade on the south side of house and there are birch trees so the temps under the trees are always a whole 20° cooler than inside the fence, of course the hostas are there but these would make good companion plants I think.
By the way, I looked at Google images and Brunnera 'Alexander's Great' is not that blue. As usual Terra Nova cannot stay away from the Photo Shopping.
