A very nice Show, Melanie! I sure love the Vanda tesselata X!
Btw, if I may - it is Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Bluebird' - Lou Sneary is the Hybrid Name and Bluebird is the 'Clonal Name' and I like it very much!
Elaine, it is always fun to see stuff opening! It sounds like your area will see really low temperatures…..
We finally had a good rainfall here and I have now full containers/a water supply for ca 4 weeks, whew! And now the temps will plummet again!
Thanks Jim and Ursula! And Ursula, I thought it was supposed to be the other way around but I just copied the tag. Now I have another one I have to fix (sigh)!

Getting plenty nippy outside now, but I do have everybody safely tucked away for tonight. Thankfully the temperature is supposed to rebound nicely into the 50s for tomorrow night, so I can get the 15 or so orchids out of the dining room . . .. in time to serve Thanksgiving dinner. The Vandas will probably stay inside until Friday.
I'm most grateful this year for the weather that looks like it will stay warm all next week as well, when we will be away diving in the Caymans. I can ask my house sitter to do lots of things, but caring for orchids is well above and beyond. Even my neighbor, who has a Masters in Horticulture and keeps an eye on the rest of the yard shies away from touching my orchids.
Melanie, the Bluebirds are exquisite, no matter what the tag says!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It dropped down into the low 40s last night but the OC was at 59 this morning. It looks like a beautiful sunny day out there so lots to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving to all
68 high with a low of 57
Partly sunny with a chance of 'sprinkles' tonight
Sprinkles here means you won't know if its raining or over spray from the nieghbors sprinklers.

Yes, I am for sure thankful for all my nice online friends, and the lovely Florida weather.
We got down to about 45 last night, so not as bad as it could have been. I am waiting until this afternoon to shlep the dining room crowd back outside and give them some water once it's warm.
Humidity is very low behind these fronts, so the dining room looks like a Chinese laundry this morning, with damp towels hanging on the backs of all the chairs. But the windows all have condensation on them, so that is a good sign. The lengths we go to, for our babies, huh?
We have friends flying in from Canada this evening, so our turkey feast will be late-ish, but wonderful. Enjoy everyone!!

Dad left the lights on in the garage and he and Mom said it really helped keep it warm enough for the vandas. Mom turned the heat on early this morning and from the burning smell I thought the house was on fire. But I got up and realized what she'd done and went back to bed. I have a cold (thanks to my brother) but I could still taste all the food so that was good. I figure if a cold is the only thing I have to worry about, I'm still doing pretty darn well.
Kathy, it looks really good!! You got it established! The "blooms" are so easily missed!! "Blooms" because they are simply ridiculous….
I have tried to grow small pieces separately from the mother clump, always without success.
Wow! Then I should be extremely proud!!!!
Say....
Does anyone recognize this beauty that's opening? I lost the tag. It might be one from Lindsey. Opened green and purple but turning white now. Large lip (especially for me). I have 2 more buds, too.
I took all the orchids back out to the shade house and gave them a good watering. Now, I'm exhausted (I have a cold). Mom did help out a lot, though so the work went by much quicker.
Here's another shot of V. Fuch's Delight x Charles Goodfellow. It's the biggest vanda I own and it is heavy! I believe I bought this from Goodwin's Orchids at a USF orchid show. All their vandas were huge! They cost $40-$50 but considering the size, I thought it was worth the price. Plus, I was still going through my "I want a yellow vanda" phase. Sadly, the other vanda I bought from them died after about six months. No idea why. But I'm blaming myself.
And here's the one I mentioned that was just opening the other day. This one hid pretty well but I rearranged all the blooming vandas now so I have a good look at them. It's probably good to rotate them anyway so they get their light requirements met. This is V. Banjong Sky Blue.
I did that first, and I went through my pages (I have written where I got them and looked through my Lindsey ones) to no avail. Next I will ask Roger West. I wondered about a purchase from Dr. dawg, too.
This interesting and new for me Orchid is opening a spike. ( bought last January)
Liparis nutans
And when I am not playing with Orchids….. ( my daughter organized this year a so called Thanktoberfest! 26 people and lots of fun!)
I looked through my orchids, Kathy, but I have nothing quite like your NOID. It is really pretty and I hope you recover the name.
Melanie, those Vandas of yours are very nice. Good growing.
Ursula, interesting Liparis nutans. It reminds me of my Aerides houlletiana except for the color. Very nice.
New blooms out in the OC for Thanksgiving:
First up is old, reliable Epc. Rene Marques 'Tyler'. This orchid does very well for me.
Our friend Janice gave me this orchid a couple of years ago and I finally have gotten it to bloom. Here is Lc. Trick or Treat 'Orange Rock' X Blc. Waianae King 'Orchidheights' HCC/AOS
Also blooming for Thanksgiving is Wilsonara Red Stars 'Rooster'.
A beautiful Nodosa hybrid, Bl. Mem. Bernice Foster.
Mounted on a big slab of wood, Myc. Mem. Louise Fuchs 'Weesie' AQ/AOS has put out a four foot spike with the first bloom opening yesterday. The old school folks know this as a Schomburgkia.
And now fully opened, here is a look at Blc. Chia Lin 'New City' X Pot. Susan Fender 'Cinnamon'.
And the elephant in the room is still Big George, Lc. George Baldwin X C. Trithena.
It was a great November here on our little Blog. Thanks to all for your posts.
