This was a photo of a very poor example of George Burns bare root (on the right). I was very upset to have paid premium $$ and receive that. I had soaked them in the pail to the left in 1st photo

I'm not entirely sure at this point, Joanne. I'd probably be better off if I were to table this project until winter break is over. As soon as I think I have a section ready to leave my head and hit the page, my thoughts are interrupted and everything flies out the window. Hilarious!

Chelle, if it's becoming a horrible chore, maybe you should choose another topic that inspires you more. This shouldn't be a bad experience for anyone. Smiling

I like this subject and believe in it, so it's definitely not a chore to write about it. In a few days I'll have a couple of hours all to myself, which should allow me to finish it. Smiling In the meantime I'll keep looking through my photos to see what I have.

You guys are awesome! I'm getting more excited as the time to order my first rose nears ... very little time online, but checking in when I can and feeling deeply appreciative of all the wonderful help! Group hug

Finally got my Blue Rose article done. Just really haven't been too focused on anything as of late.

Body Bags versus potted roses should be touched for novice growers like me. That way, people can see what they have the possibility of getting themselves into. Only problem is that I can't supply good pictures because none of the stores are carrying bodybags yet. I can probably whip up an article on roots, but I already touched on that with my growing roses in CO last year.

The banner size I really can't do very well. I almost always automatically resize my images to 1000X750, so making something 1500x150 is a major pain in the patookie. Here's a couple I came up with.

Hi, Cathy. Welcome to ATP. Porkpal's writing an article about the Austin roses, so maybe she'll include some information about the Gertrude Jekyll rose.

Hi, Toni. I think Sue has no shortage of rose banners, so don't worry about that.

As for body-bag roses and potted roses, I can only repeat my story about the day I was at a nursery when a big shipment from the wholesaler arrived. The roses were separated into three piles. The best were reserved for sale as bare-root roses, the ones with only a few problems were planted in pots and were to be sold as container roses, and the awful ones were sent back to the wholesaler, who probably sold them to Home Depot and other places that carry body-bag roses. If you want the pick of the litter, buy bare-root roses at a nursery.

Thanks Zuzu,
I have 2 Gertrude Jekylls and plan to add another variety this spring but I hate to order before I have a spot picked out and prepared so I haven't ordered yet.

Here was mine over the past years, they outgrew the space so I plan to move them both to another location. I prune them back so severely each year that even I am surprised how they come back each spring. I'm pretty sure they would be as tall as the house if I didn't prune them hard, and I mean down to 3 foot canes

How about an article about diseases / pests that seem to hit roses specifically and the easiest way to treat such problems so that roses look much easier to care for than what most people think? I would volunteer for this, but I have no experience with almost 100% of the rose problems such as slugs, rust, Japanese beetles, etc. I get a little black spot towards the end of the year, but what usually kills my roses (other than my neglect) is my winters. I don't have the pests that most other places have (thankfully.. not sure why yet).

Calsurf73 wrote two articles for Roses Week 2013, Toni. One on rose pests and one on rose diseases. How did you miss them? Rolling my eyes.

It's time to start working on your articles in earnest. Paul, Chelle, Rita, and Skiekitty have turned theirs in already. I haven't seen any others, but we only have two weeks left, and it will take some time to edit them, format them, and schedule them for publication, so please submit them soon.

Pretty simple. I suffer from CRS. My brain is like a colander. Or I have OldTimers. Take your pick.
