I got a new badge!! Thanks Dave, and Glen!

I was told that the Western Toad was a cane toad. I didn't research it enough to find out if that was true or not. I assumed that the person was correct, since they seemed to know what they were talking about. It wasn't on this site though. Whatever it is, it's poisonous to the dogs, and nothing much eats it because of that. I was also told that it was a bufo toad, and that these were in the same family as the cane toad. Either way, they scare me because of the dogs.

@Natalie, (not to start any arguments here, please) I was not acquainted with this Cane Toad, but a quick search of the internet confirms that they are in the US since at least 1913 and they are a problem and you can check with your local county cooperative extension service or local university for local information.

There are in the U.S. but limited to the southern coastal areas. They are listed as native to the extreme southern tip of Texas and introduced to the costal areas of Louisiana and Florida.

No need to worry Greene, you aren't going to get any arguments from me! I have checked with the extension office, and they said the same thing about the toads, but I really don't know which information is accurate. I do know that the ones I have are poisonous, which was what I really wanted to know. No matter what they are, they aren't welcome!

Alas, all my frogs are green. I'll stick with the dragonfly badge to symbolize my pond/creek.

I thought all our tree frogs were green until yesterday morning when I spied a very small brown one. Hmmm, what can this new frog be?

Oooo… @greene I hope it's not the Cuban Tree frog! A dangerously invasive species!! Grumbling I don't know for sure that it's made it as far north as you are…Sure hope not!

All of the frogs I've seen here have been small green tree frogs. The scary toad was the only one that wasn't green.

It is the very beautiful Golden Toad Bufo periglenes. It was one of the first casualties of chrytid fungus caused extinctions throughout the world in the last 30 years. Yes, most frogs change colour.

Well, my new little frog would have had to change not only color, buy his pattern and skin texture as well. I will ask him "Hey, ¿de dónde vienes y qué tipo de rana es usted?" and if he answers me I guess he arrived with my Guatemalan or Mexican neighbors.
Please don't let this be the dreaded invasive frog from Cuba.

Update on the little tree frog. Whatever he or she is, we are now keeping it in a small critter box and feeding it. It has adjusted and is eating crickets. We will keep it confined until we are sure that it is not the invasive Cuban Tree Frog. All the photos available on the internet show such variations I just cannot be sure; he is not yet ready for his close up Mr Demille.
