Ever bend down too close to an agave and realize that you like your eyesight better than your plants? Although houseplants are great, it's hardly worth a terminal spine to the retina!
I'll bet if you took the hanger cap off small Christmas tree balls and stuffed a bit of that cork into the ball hole;... stuck them on the tips of the Agave;...they would look great at Christmas too!
They do that with large Century plants down here in Florida sometimes and its really fun!
Even better ... use the agave plant in the middle of a cheese tray for guest and stick little squares of cheese on the ends to make a nice appetizer display!

Sway: Great idea! I don't grow spiny, thorny plants for the reason that they are so dangerous to a klutz like me.
David: Great idea about decorating them too. I remember elderly neighbor's of my mom's in South Fla. years ago and one use colored styrofoam balls on the sharp tips of Yucca plants while another (although I'm not sure how they were secured) covered Yucca tips with parts of colored styrofoam egg cartons. Your comment got me to googling and I found this photo:
There are some fun ideas here!
We don't grow those plants here, but I had a similar problem when my late DH would go into the garden,--- and not see the stakes which I use to hold plants.
I solved his problem by placing a small piece of coloured electrical tape over the ends of the stakes.
