H.Johnsonii aka St.Josephs' lily is supposed to be one of the most hardy. It is reported to be one of the very first commercial hybrids.

Here is a young Giraffe. This is an offset from a bulb purchased last year so the flower is on the small side. The color in the picture is not quite right,it is more a rust color.

These two scapes are from the cross Grandeur x Benfica.Notice the difference in color. We will watch these and see what differences there are in seed from the same pod.

Thanks, it has another bud but it's not growing. All the energy seems to be going to the bloom that's open.
I'm still watching the bud on Mr. Hughes which is taking its time. Estella has two stalks growing. Didn't it bloom earlier? Other than those 2, I don't see any more buds.

Papilio is open today. This one is far and away my favorite. This bulb is from Easy to Grow Bulbs last year and has bloomed both years. There are slight differences in papilio clones. The one at the top of the page is from Nestor White.I forget his Ebay name.

This one is Pamela. It has the same deep, velvety color of Benfica and Black Pearl. My camera doesn't do it justice.Medium to small flower and it multiplies quickly.

That is fabulous!!! Wish my 2 would bloom but all they do is grow more leaves. But at least they are happy!
I picked up an amaryllis today in bud. As usual it was in a heavy wet medium. When I repotted it, it had no roots and rot. I potted it in a quick draining medium. I will cut off the stem again like the last time. I suspect this happens routinely because they come as a dry bulb with no instructions. Now I wish I bought more to save them all. This seems to be the pattern lately. Grumbling

I have had one of these bloom already and have three more with scapes.I think we need a seperate thread to keep track of these so others can see what they might expect from these crosses.
