I found a bunch of Camassias growing wild along a stream bank, in bloom with hundreds of wild larkspur- it was gorgeous! I went back and dug a few of the Camassia, as they were more lavender than any I was already growing, and I wanted to try and identify the species. That was in 2013, and since they were moved in bloom, they died back too quickly and didn't bloom in 2014. The foliage grew well, so I'm expecting to see them this spring- fingers crossed!

There are patches of Lent Lily (Narcissus psuedonarcissus) and 'Van Sion' Daffodils in the grass here. I've moved some to the garden, and this year will move more. Lent Lily is usually the first Daff to bloom here, so I need them sprinkled through the garden! I read in Old House Garden's catalog that Van Sion can have a different bloom form after being divided- I've only seen the fully double form, with greenish segments, but the pic in the catalog showed a cupped Daff, with a cup full of petaloids.

Keep watching Neal. It will happen soon, soon. We have azaleas blooming now -- spring is here I guess although we keep having nights @ 30 & 31.

I forgot about the early bulbs. As soon as the 3 feet of snow melts on the area I will look for the Galanthus.

That looks like a mess Jo Ann as I am ill equipped to deal with the frozen stuff. On the bright side, with the slow melt, you will have abundant ground water this year. I hope when it does thaw your spring blooms come up like rockets. smiles

I know those heavy snow falls present a hardship to many.
But it is comforting to know that the magic of bulbs is protected by the same snow falls.

I agree. The snow cover means the deer arent eating my heucheras and other perennials. The vast white landscape seems endless and I know there wont be any green until March.

I found many bulbs in the grass today. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

The Tete-a-Tete's I planted in Dec. 2013 are beginning to emerge from sleep.

This must be 1 of the NOID's I have picked up from the store b/c it isn't Tete-A-Tete or Sun Disc which are the 2 known varieties I have planted in that area. Funny, the blooms have this distinctive nodding habit.
Thumb of 2015-02-07/flaflwrgrl/a6bf6b

Here I tilted them up so you could see the bloom well
Thumb of 2015-02-07/flaflwrgrl/b39412

More of the NOID's in that same general area
Thumb of 2015-02-07/flaflwrgrl/8fa9cb

I think these are Earlicheer the former owner planted

These are Narcissus Quail

Drumstick Allium

And these are Species Daffodil

Is there a fragrance to the nodding yellow above?

Darn! I meant to post that. I stuck my nose right smack inside it & couldn't smell a thing & I have a pretty sharp sense of smell.

@jmorth

Update on the jonquil I posted on the 6th. It had the nodding blooms for a few days when it first began blooming but since then they have straightened out to be normal. I got some photos this morning - see below. AND on the 6th when I took those last photos it was quite warm & in the afternoon. At that time I could not smell any scent but this cool morning when I took these photos I took another sniff and the scent was deliciously sweet as well as fairly strong.

Wanted to share these pics here too, as they are indeed bulbs in the grass. Winter Aconite that I attempt to dig out of the grass here every year, to have them in the garden. Each year they return in the grass, and are always the first to bloom.

That's really pretty Neal. I would love to see that popping up in my grass. I'm afraid I'm just a bit too far south for it though. Sighing!

The first bulb I found in Alabama, Amaryllis! These were moved (again) last April. I gave up trying to take a pic of them without the "rain droop"...

Found about 4 gallons of Narcissus & a few more Lycoris bulbs in mowed area, enough to fill this 3-gallon pail & about half of another:
