It's really nice! I got a single fan from Mljomo on the LA.

Yes, that is the way to go. I always do that for HD and Lowe's. You just drive up with your print out and a guy puts everything in your car or truck. Sure beats pushing a heavy shopping cart with 500 lb's of stuff in there. Whistling

I used the Dynamite 2 lb. bottles from Home Depot. It is just like Nutricote only easier to find. Once I found a 50 lb. bag of Nutricote on Ebay with free shipping, I got that last year. I think it was 18-6-18 formulation.I don't remember exactly without going out to the cold garage to look at the bag. I am now using that for all my pots. All my daylilies grow in pots. It is the 9 month slow release formulation which I use once per year. When it is cold the fertilizer doesn't work anyway.

Ok, I get it. Duh! You have to check, 'ship to home' it is not available at MY store that's all. I did notice that the Nutricote is available in the 13-13-13 on eBay for about 3.49 per pound, free shipping and it is the 6 month release. The only 18-6-8 that they have is a 50lb bag for 125.00 and that is not happening here.
The Dynamite is a 9 month release so the Nutricote releases faster, is that good or bad?
The Dynamite for vegetables is the 13-13-13 and the all purpose is the 18-6-8, both are 8.97 for the two pound bottle at HD. I will order that it just seems like the easiest thing to do right now.

Susan, this means that the 9 month release continues to release fertilizer for 9 months if the proper temperature and water are present. Nutricote is a heat and water release fertilizer. It does not begin releasing fertilizer until the GROUND temperature reaches about 70 degrees. You can Google to find out when the ground temperature reaches 70 degrees in your area. Here in NW GA. the ground temperature does not reach 70 degrees until near the end of May. We use the 6 month release Nutricote instead of 9 month. Once the ground temperature cools in the late fall, Nutricote will stop releasing the fertilizers here. Water is also instrumental in releasing the fertilizer, too. We buy the 50 lb. bags of Nutricote from a garden center in an adjoining county. If we only had a small number of daylilies, we would probably buy Dynamite (which is Nutricote) at Lowes or Home Depot. We use the 3:1:2 formula or the closest to that ratio. We try to get the Nutricote with trace elements included. Also, the 6 month release is cheaper than the 9 month release.

Susan, keep in mind that these are "UP TO" release times. The higher the temps the lower the longevity of the fertilzer

taken from http://www.tree-land.com/ferti...

One common question that customers have is if there is an exact duration at which the Dynamite releases fertilizer so they know when to reapply. Controlled release fertilizers like Dynamite have variable release rates based primarily upon soil temperature and slightly upon moisture. Customers can not simply reapply the Dynamite 9 months from their previous application as the label suggests. The 9 months is used to indicate the number of days required for 80% of the contained nitrogen to release when the Dynamite is held at a constant temperature of 77° F.

So in other words the higher the temp the more fertilizer is released and the shorter it will last. I bought some Osmocote 3-4 month one time because BWI didn't have anything else close to the ratio I wanted. Anyway the label reads

at 70° lasts 3-4 months
at 80° last 2-3 months
at 90° lasts 1-2 months

and when it gets over 90 is lasts even less and we can get in the high 90s and 100s in the summer

The Nutricote (the professional big bags) label says for the 9-10 month that

at 70° lasts 10 months
at 80° last 9 months
so anything over 80 starts knocking it down more in longevity

In some areas this will be fine since the temps don't get too hot but in areas where the temps get high you wouldn't want to use a lower release time unless you want to reapply more often.

We buy the Florikan brand of the Nutricote and the prices fluctuate I suppose with the market. Also, it depends on if we get the red/white bag or the green/white bag

I was told the red bag is made out of country so it costs more whereas the green bag is made in the states. I believe it because I got the green/white bag of the 300 day and it was $61.59 and the red/white bag of the 180 day was $90.00

I have never seen florikan here locally. Very interesting information! Will see if I can find some. I go through a bag of fertilizer that size several times a year. It would be great to only apply once. When do you fertilize, Michele? Spring?

Thanks Betty and Michele! I was mainly focused on the rain. I was thinking it was the rain that caused it to release fertilizer and that in a place that gets a lot of rain the slower release would be better. Now I know the temps have a lot to do with it too.
I would hope the 9 month release would get me through the growing season but with temps near 100 most of the time it might need to be reapplied. I will have to monitor the temps and rain. Last summer was not as bad as usual and winter came early for us, 4 cold fronts in August which is usually the most active month for storms and scorching heat!

@tink3472..Thanks for the link about the fertilizer. How big is that bag of Florikan/ Nutricote? (61.59)

Here is the link to the places that sell it in Florida and most are down in South Florida. There are a few that have above the names "more Florida locations" so if you don't see one near you try going to their website to see where their other locations are.

I do the majority of my fertilizing in the fall when we divide and replant everything or move seedlings. And since we usually use the 270 day to 360 day it will carry us into the fall of the following year. I do reapply alfalfa several times a year. One reason we do it in the fall is because that is when we are moving, dividing, replanting everything so it makes it easier to just do it then. In places (more Northern) where people do their cleanup, dividing, and such in the spring then it would make sense do it then.
