This spring I will be visiting several large iris gardens. We have several people, including hybridizer Mark Grumbine, located in central AR who just love gardening and focus on growing iris on several acres. We also have one vendor in our state that is family owned and very welcoming when the iris are blooming. I will add some of the iris you posted, Greg, to my list of "Must See In Person" iris. Our iris growers open their gardens during the peak of iris bloom and we can just show up and wander freely. It is like being in a fairy tale.

Once you see these lovely blooms in person you must have them growing where you can enjoy them every day.....in your own garden.

Tessie is sorta a "weed" when it comes to growth (increases galore!). Let me find the picture I took of Tessie when I first got her.

Thumb of 2013-12-25/Misawa77/8d53ff

Tessie had one bloom stalk in the Spring of 2012 (so 2 1/2 months after I got her) and then produced 4 bloom stalks the Spring of 2013. Looks like 2014 should produce 10+ for me Hurray!

Make a note now to take a picture of the whole clump and post. What a show she puts on! Is she an early bloomer? I am impressed with her vigor.

I just LOVE plants that seem to want to grow and do well. Beautiful, and healthy looking. Do you grow them in pots for long?

Teresa - This is how I got it from the vendor. They had potted the rhizome in August and I got it in late February. I only pot irises for two reasons; the plant needs alot of TLC and may croak or I am selling it. Irises can only really be in a pot for one season before they out grow it. They much prefer the garden so they can spread their roots out. The pot is too confining in the long term. Still, I have heard of folks who do pots and have no real issues. Just not my cup of tea.
