Well I ordered more Aloe Polly seeds. In fact, 20 more seeds and when counted, more like 50. Sad note; The note that came with them said it could take 8 months to germinate. Lucky me, 3 more germinated making 3 plants so far. So it's like 6 out of 60. Rest may come up in a few months.
My Stapelia and Huernia seeds are almost all are coming up. Strange thing is they almost all look alike. I do have them separted. My Hechtia Special mix is just breaking ground so is the Dyckia platyphylla. Along with another Aloe seeds ALOE HYBRID MIX exotic cultivar good color cacti rare'.
I wanted only one or two of some nice looking plants I saw on Ebay. Troble was, they were selling for over $10 each, some way more! and plus shipping. Then I saw the seeds and way cheaper with almost no shipping cost. I was always lucky with seeds so, Why not? Below is results; Also come summer, most will be traded or given away.
J.B., I am not out of the woods so to speak. Need to transplant the larger ones into their own growing pots. So far, out of the first 3 that germinated, I lost one. It had little to no roots when I tried to transplant it. So far that leaves me with 6 plants out of approx. 60 seeds. Got 8 months of watching to do.
JB,
No, I planted a patch of 10 seeds at which only 3 germinated. That means 7 lie in dormancy state up to 8 months before I throw them out. I then purchased 20 more seeds and planted. In about a few weeks, I got 4 germinated. Leaving 16 more in dormancy. They may germinate as the paper that came with them said (in 8 months). Also I forgot to mention that we are talking about Aloe Poly seeds. I have heard they are harder to grow.
I am pretty lucky with seeds so I figured why not give these a try. Also If only one grows it pays for itself many times, These guys are expensive.
My Clivia are now showing a white bump sticking out. Meaning they are germinating. These guys are also expensive. The variegated type. I usually get all of what I ordered to germinate. I purchased 10 seeds so I believe I will get 10 plants. The hard part came in one year for me. The last batch I lost all of them to a base fungus. This time I will be more careful. That fungus also attacked my older established Clivia that was 15 years old.

You are so good Stush, what patience you must have. I will keep watching this thread to see how you make out. I envy people who can grow seeds and actually get them to the point where you can plant them and see the beauty of your work. Thanks for sharing your information with me. I really am going to keep trying.
JB,
My luck came when I started using domed covered dishes. Like the take out kind with the clear lids. Also use root-tone to soak the seeds in. It seems they like just a little moisture and high humidly. The hard part comes when transplanting into their own pots. I hope to do this in late spring out side. Just one mess-up drying out and the whole project is done. I think that's where the lids come in at. Keeps it moist.

I use those plastic dishes also. I also use the ones I get lettuce in because a small pot sits in them with no problem. I eat alot of chinese take out and thanks to them I do not run out of dishes.
Sounds like my son. He eats a lot of Chinese take out and throws away the containers. I go thru the garbage before taking it out and clean and store the containers. Never know. Wish he took more after me. But at least I have plenty of seed starters.

That is funny. You would make a good "dumpster diver". I have a young girl that helps me and she also works for a few businesses like landscaping, etc and she goes thru their dumpster for pots and greenhouse stuff for her place. What a riot she is. One day she took me with her to dumpster dive and we got lots of goodies. Those landscapers throw all the pots away when they do a job. I would think they could return them to the wholesaler they bought the shrubs from. Hmm. Just thinking outloud.
Believe me, I thought about it for a while. My wife was with me and no way was that going to happen. I was going to drop her off some where and come back. But K-Mart has locks on theirs. Also against the law. Why, can't figure it out. That recycling to the max.

My easter cactus seeds perished.....died..........I killed them.........I knew it was too good to be true. They lasted a few weeks and now they are gone. I do not have any others either.
Oh well. Now we are going to try the sweet shrubs by winter sowing some and stratifying others with normal planting. I keep trying. I feel so sorry for those little seeds. I tell them when I plant them, I can not guarantee this could be the worst thing that could happen to them. They never reply.

I am going to self destruct but I want to keep trying to grow something with seeds. I am going to think about it for awhile and then hunt seeds. I must be out of my old mind to punish myself like this. I do love a challenge.
