I have several plants that I want to add to my list. However, when I try, there is no existing match and I can't add them.

For example:

Hellebore (Helleborus 'Ballerina Ruffles')

Find the Helleborus orientalis page, scroll to the bottom, see 'add a plant' and go from there.

Rick, if you cannot find the specific match to your plant, you may have to first add it to the database (always a good thing). It will take a day or two (usually less) for the administrators to approve the addition, and then you can add it to your list. When adding a new plant, it is helpful if you can add as much information as you know about it. If you have a photo, you will have to wait until your new entry has been approved and then add the photo. All part of the combined group effort to increase the knowledge base.

Thanks Evan!

I added my latest Hellebore addition this morning, HGC Jacob. I had to do a bit of research though, because there is a Jacob Classic and a Jacob Royal in the database, but not plain old Jacob. I ended up using the patent number to pick the correct one.

I'm not sure how much work it would be, but it would be nice if the patent number were listed (if known) in the list of available plants.

For example...

Christmas Rose (Helleborus niger Gold Collection® Jacob Classic USPP#1 7799)

instead of just

Christmas Rose (Helleborus niger Gold Collection® Jacob Classic)

Thanks again!

If all else fails I have had success sending a picture of the plant tag to one of the administrators. Eclayne and several others have been helpful.

Hi Rick,
Dave has given us some powerful search tools.

For any particular group or genera of plants start on The All Things Plants Database home page.

Next Visit our custom databases, upper right, which you can scroll through until you see your target plant. In this case Hellebores, which, when selected, leads you to the The Hellebores Database. Once here, select the » Search by characteristics (height, bloom color, etc) hyperlink. You will wind up here Searching Hellebores.

Once on the characteristics page you can select what you want. Try selecting the check box next to Patented, under Miscellaneous near the bottom of the page. Then click Search. I get 21 patented Hellebores.

Thanks Evan! I admit that I haven't really gone through the site yet. This will help a lot.
