I have a fantastic crop of burdocks... Glare the dogs bring in the harvest every day.

My tomatoes were very slow starting but I now have more than I can use. Zucchini was disappointing, I had 2 plants, one died and I have picked only 4, there are a couple more coming along. Only 1 butternut squash, 2 spaghetti squash, best was turban squash. All in all, a strange year.

No thorns on rhubarb.....I know the weed you have....I've always called it rhubarb weed because I've been too lazy to look it up! I took some of my green tomatoes off yesterday & pickled them.

My garden is still going strong. Still picking cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes as well as tons of greens and herbs. My zucchini is pretty much finished and just waiting on a few more to get a little bigger. The fall peas are about a foot tall now and thriving in the cooler weather. I've been making refrigerator bread and butter pickles and my family who was here visiting absolutely loved them. I think they consumed at least two gallons worth while here this past week. Making room inside for a few tomato volunteers that are growing by leaps and bounds. I'm hoping to keep them alive and possibly get some winter tomatoes from them indoors.

As a newbie to vegetable growing, I realized that I don't know when to harvest! I have a few turban squash, one butternut squash and a couple of spaghetti squashes. They all look fairly nice, but how do you know if they are ready?

Thank you in advance,
Lore Lisa

The attached stem should be yellowing, the skin on the squash hard...you have to harvest before a frost.....

Today's harvest included 3 more huge zucchini, 1 extra large yellow squash, 16 cucumbers, 12 large supersteak tomatoes and a ton of cherry and yellow pear tomatoes, 2 jalepeno peppers, 4 red peppers, string beans, 1 cantaloupe, 1 butternut squash and a 2 gallon bag of kale. Swiss chard, red beet tops, lettuce, sorrel, celery tops, all went to making a salad topped with parsely and nasturtium flowers. Also picked 4 small orange gourds. Tomorrow I have to pick some thyme, oregano and rosemary to dry.

Picked half the bed of carrots funniest shaped carrots I ever did see, but about a gallon bags worth.

Went to my Dad's and picked 6 more large carving pumpkins and still there are 12 more large orange ones and about 6 or so smaller green ones.

The sloppy bun in my hair with a shiny clip must be an attractant for hawks. Two big hawks circling over my head and back inside I go. Not gonna have the hawks attacking me like last year. Guess I have to break down and get me a big ole straw hat for when I'm in the garden.....

Pulled and picked the last of cucumbers today. Got another basket full of cucumbers. With the vines gone now the peas will get more light. Have my dehydrator running non stop trying to dry the oregano, parsley, and thyme. Rosemary has been hung on the curtain rods to dry as I love the smell of it. Gonna try bringing in the 2 new Rosemary plants this year and winter it over and replant outside in the spring. I lost my 5 year old plant last year cause I brought it inside too late.
