I should get a commission, but I will again spread the word about Repellex tablets. They were developed at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. You bury the tablets under your vulnerable plants. They take up the stuff systemically and the whole plant tastes bad. In theory the rabbits and deer will learn to avoid the area in your yard, and after using these for the past 2 years it appears to me that claim is accurate. It seems expensive, $20 or so for a bottle of 50 tablets, but it is effective for a whole year. I have tried every other method and this works the best besides caging, which is not as aesthetically pleasing to me. So I treat my lilies and echies. They avoid all of those and have started to bother my astrantia, so now I am treating them also.
I think I have mentioned that I even see rabbits in my yard when I am out with my big dog...last week he saw one behind me and bolted after it. I had his leash in my left hand at the time. As a result, I now have 2 broken fingers. I think it's time to put out traps and welocate the wascals.
