By Joannabanana

Have you ever thought it would be fun to have a color themed garden? Using annuals to enhance a specific color is a lot easier than you may think. One of the advantages is that you can change your color theme every year.

Johanna: What a great article and especially enjoyable during this gloomy and cold winter season. Your gardens are outstanding, the color combinations are really beautiful! Thank you for reminding us all that garden glory can come from the rainbow colors of both annuals and perennials ... and even greenery! Thumbs up

What is the orange flower in the 10th pic that is on the right side of the black trellis with the purple petunias?

That is a flower bag of Papaya Potunia petunias. I bought them in a jumbo 6-pack and had to really squeeze the roots to fit through the tiny openings of the bag. Did a lot of orange that year (2011)

Thanks Everyone for the lovely comments, thumbs up and acorns. It is exciting to plan the next season and the seed catalogues have some great ideas. I'm haven't decided what I'm doing for color this year, but I should get to it and order some seeds. Hilarious!

Jmorth,

It was really tough to choose photos and also a bit of a challenge to get the same scene for different years Hilarious! 90% of my photos are of my garden and sorted by year on the computer......the "winter project" that keeps getting bumped to next winter Whistling

Joanne,

It's the pic before that one, that I was talking about. #10 The orange flowers have a tubular look to them.

The pic you thought I was talking about is pic #11.

Oooh, love the Glory Vine ... just glorious!! I need to read up on that beauty!

And, Joanne ... would love to see your daughters drawing of the Chickadee when it's finished. She should do more drawings of birds, butterflies and blooms ... and sell them! Smiling

In my perfect 'imaginary neighborhood' I want to live across the street from a guy or gal who restores antique cars and paints them really cool colors. That way I can enjoy the view without the work or the expense.

Thanks to your article, I can now place you in my imaginary neighborhood - I want you to live next door to me on kitchen side of the imaginary house so I can be cheered by your ever changing floral colors first thing in the morning. I will bake you muffins to encourage you to keep working.

Thank you, I will revisit this article many times.

How nice Greene! My neighbours in all directions do enjoy the view and also the give-away of extra seedlings, perennial divisions etc.

The funniest comment was late fall one year. We had a real nice fall and the garden was still going strong Mid-October. After the killing frost, a young boy marched over to my house and was on a mission to find out who killed all the plants in my garden. He was sure it happened over night. I told him Jack Frost came to visit and put them to sleep for the winter and the plants would all be back in the spring. I was a bit surprised at how concerned he was. Apparently he admired the garden even at his age. He seemed a bit perplexed when he left. I guess he thought I should have been a bit more devastated

Good story, thanks. I would be curious to see where that young man is now and what he chose for a vocation and an avocation.

Not sure where the people moved to.

Here's a ATP Gardening Idea that I did a while back on how I plant hanging baskets & containers.
