By Joannabanana

Have you ever thought it would be fun to have a color themed garden? Using annuals to enhance a specific color is a lot easier than you may think. One of the advantages is that you can change your color theme every year.

Joanne,

What you've been able to accomplish in a zone 3 garden is just AMAZING! What a gorgeous collection of plants, combined so beautifully to create such a stunning masterpiece !!!!

You have really inspired me to add more annuals in my garden, to get more color spread throughout the year. I will be coming back to review this thread frequently for ideas.

It's very clear that artistic talent is in the genes Smiling your daughter's artwork is just delightful, I too would love to see more of her pictures, she is also truly talented.

Thank you for such a fabulous article!

I have bought them off the seed racks in the local stores. The packages have lots of seeds (quite tiny) and they seem to be viable for a few years. I like the leaf shape and the stems don't get woody like other annual vines. Here's a photo of the vine in May (with the obelisk). I would have sowed the seeds in early March. 2 plants for a 14" container would be recommended.

Thank you Anna. No local paper featuring the garden, but I have had Open Garden tours for the Calgary Horticultural Society and the Calgary Rose Society.

Joanne's garden is even more beautiful if you have the opportunity to visit it.
It always inspires me to try harder in my own yard.
But I start planning colour combinations, and then when the time comes to put them together...
either one colour did not germinate, or did not turn out as good as I had imagined.
The combinations wind up being spur of the moment with what looks healthy in the spring.
