Love j maples, Deb. Great you tube show. I have two different varieties in my front yard. The one was closer to the power line coming into the house than anticipated. Having reached its mature height we decided it should go. If it was not so much work (a lot of root) I'd just move it, but I am getting less inclined to heavy manual labor as I get older.

Deb - Was that video at little Charlie's house? Very nice. The 2 you gave me are still thriving, but I'm a bit concerned with the cold weather we had this year with zero snow coverage. Keeping my fingers crossed. Also read something about using tie wire wrapped in a curly-Q at the end of the branches to minimize deer browse. Haven't tried it yet and we haven't had as many deer in recent year due in part, I think, to the "not introduced, but mysteriously wearing radio collar wolves". We still fence them for the winter. (the Japanese Maples, not the Wolves!)

@lauribob, yes that was Charlie's yard. We should plan a walk-through both this spring and in the fall - gorgeous colors during both seasons. A lot of my scratch-n-dents have reverted to plain-jane green leaves, and I'm too soft-hearted to pull them all off - it would almost totally denude the trees and I'm afraid that would kill them in itself.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
