Karen, these fern leaved peonies were moved here from my previous garden 8 years ago. A division was given to me over 30 years ago, they're slow to increase.

My peonies are finally showing remarkable growths. I have found buds on several of my peony trees which I am really excited to see their first blooms. Last year I got only two blooms from tree peonies, 1 from High Noon and 1 from a pink noid that looks like Hanakisoi. This year I see buds on about 6 tree peonies. I hope they make it to bloom. Sometime, the buds don't mature and die, a condition called "bud blast" . My Coral Charm peonies are growing really fast! They have the tallest stems now. Nova is showing a nice clump. I really like this peony and look forward to its blooms. It has a pretty shade of light yellow and its simplicity is its charm. I will get some pics later. Have a good tax day everyone!

It's amazing how quickly peonies will grow once they start. It seems like forever and then BOOM! They're a foot tall with buds!

I got the last Cactus Jack from the mamajack co-op several weeks ago.
I moistened it when it arrived, and placed it in a ziplock bag, but had not had a chance to plant it, and it started growing in the bag. I planted it yesterday.

I'm amazed at the size of the buds on Command Performance. The iris in front is Decadance, and the one in the back Blackbeard.

Thanks Celia and Karen! The flowers on Command Performace are quite large, and I do love my irises.

Diann, the mulch is long pine needles. I try to keep it away from over the peonies and irises as they grow. It is a constant battle, but I love the way the pine needles break down and amend the soil.

I thought I had lost Coral Sunset, like your Coral Charm. Even planted some rhubarb over the top of where it was. That was two years ago last summer. Then last summer I spotted two plants that were definitely not rhubarb in the middle of the bed. Coral Sunset had sent up two plants from what was left. Just bits, maybe 2-3" long of tuber on each. Amazing. They are in pots in the garage and have sent up sprouts this spring. My available space for dahlias will have to be cut back to accommodate both these two and two others that grew from broken off tubers.
