Your plants are looking great Celia!

Itoh Keiko is about to bloom, which is unusual, since it usually blooms later in the season.

I have tree peonies, herbaceous peonies, and now an Itoh about to bloom at the same time, my plants are really confused Blinking

This whole year is confusing. Is it summer? Is it winter? Spring? The plants are less confused than I. I'm completely messed up. Lol

After a long Albertan winter the peonies here are finally waking up. Here's a glimpse into some of the action going on around these parts.

All I can say is WOW Annette! That Keiko is going to be absolutely stunning in bloom. How many buds does it have??!!

Welcome to the forum, Nick! Looks like you're going to have a couple of nice sized peonies, too! I had to look up Tranquil Dove, wasn't familiar with it. It's really pretty, can't wait to see the bloom pics! Coral Fay is a really good one, too.

Hey Nick. You are a bit ahead of me. Welcome. I always like to see more northern gardens. The guys in the lower 48 just don't seem to follow my gardening calendar. I only have a fernleaf hybrid showing pips and a few herbaceous showing pips. It will start exploding around May 1.

Liz, I just counted the buds in the picture, and Keiko has more than 30 buds😱. I didn't even pay attention when I took the picture.

Welcome, Nick! Tranquil Dove looks exceptionally vigorous to have been planted in 2014!

Annette, can't wait to see Keiko in bloom!

Getting very exciting around here, just noticed The Mackinac Grand has a bud! Looks like I will also see first year blooms on Cheddar Charm, Blaze, Scarlet Ohara, and America. Bartzella looks amazing, I counted 9 buds without inspecting too closely, and I suspect a few more were hiding among the lush growth. The other day I realized I've been so focused on the more recent additions that I haven't been paying much attention to the old ones I've had around forever. I have a few I believe to be Sarah Bernhardt, and one clump in particular looks really big and happy. Perhaps I'll even be a good boy and stake the old gal this year, LOL.

P. tenuifolia always blooms with the lilacs, and is positioned in front of one that is full of blooms. It is just about to come into full bloom, and last year I planted a pink azalea nearby which is also about to burst into bloom. Excited to see that combo!

Tranquil Dove has been on my wanted list for awhile. I was hoping to get it this year from Solaris Farms but they sold out as soon as their website is opened. I'd love to see your pic of it in bloom, Nick.

Some of us are all excited with buds and blooms. I am still excited to see pips peeking out of the soil. Roselette and Cora Louise made and appearance

I was worried about the bits of tubers I had in pots in the garage. They started out great but now they are looking dry. I am thinking it is simply too warm in the garage so I have moved them to the back porch. Just an open porch to the weather but we should not have any hard frosts and the snow won't hurt them. I think the cooler weather might do them good.

Welcome Nick. I would have to back up a ways to see where you live but apparently you are one of us northerners. Yeah. I won't be alone.

Mary, I'm glad you're starting to see pips, and I hope your tubers in pits are okay.

Liz, I counted the buds on Keiko while I was outside this afternoon, and I got at least 46. My neighbors must think I'm weird/strange, since I counted the buds using a yardstick, LOL. The blooms are starting to open.

wide.

Unfortunately, I had bud blast occur on Mackinac Grand and Ann Cousins. I think it occured due to our last frost😔😩. These were planted last fall.

Wow, thank you for the warm welcome folks. You are all too kind. It's kind of funny because I've been lurking so long that I'm sort of familiar with all the people that frequent this forum. It's nice to finally be part of the discussion.

I'll be sure to post photos once I get some blooms and I'll be looking for all of yours. Looks like everyone is doing really well this year and I'm excited to see your progress. Hello to all my fellow northern climate gardeners as well. It's always nice to hear from others that run on roughly the same gardening schedule.

In my experience, bud blast is common in newly planted or divided peonies. It seems there is a certain point where the bud gets plump enough that I can tell its out of the danger zone, until then I don't even let myself get too hopeful.

Neal, I've seen that, too. I get it now when it gets too hot later in the season. Only a few but some.
