Love the pics, We have a few blue heron in our area I see them occasionally down by the creek or the river. It surprises me that I see them even in the winter. There is an area in a small creek close to the river where I have seen them fishing the stream is open water but there is a good bit of ice on the banks and several feet of snow on the ground. So funny to see a bird there that I generally think of as living in a more warmer climate.

Those herons are gorgeous birds.

The dang Starlings have arrived and I am very annoyed with them, they can eat 3 suet cakes in a matter of hours, so I wont be putting any more out until they move on. My poor Flickers will just have to do with the seeds.

Notice the different color on the tails of these two Flickers, they are both hybrids of the yellow and red shafted.


Saw this Bald Eagle from my kitchen window the other day, too far to get a good shot, it was also windy and he was blowing around.

Margaret: Oh my, those Flickers are gorgeous, especially love that last one! The Bald Eagle is beautiful even with the wind blowing his/her feathers!

Those are great pictures. I always thought that Starlings couldn't hang on upside down but that one sure looks like he is doing it.

Holly, the Starlings are very good at hanging on, the movement doesn't seem to bother them either.

Lovely birds Margaret! Those starlings really are a nuisance. When they come thru here, I have to stop with the suet until they move on.

A few pictures for the first day of spring ....

The Redwing Blackbirds have shown up. I see them in flocks each spring. Pretty birds with the flash of red on the wing.

Lin, your birds are well fed, looks like a great mix of seeds and nuts.

I feed the no melt suet cakes and in the regular feeders a fruit/nut blend but every so often I will add more peanuts, raisins, blueberries and such.

Beautiful, Our birds are really chowing down, going thru a 40# bag of mixed seed and 25# of sunflower a week. We have never used this much.

I must look around to see if anyone has tried suet in Australia.
