I've had some luck growing sweet peppers but in summer, the walls are so thin, it's hardly worth it. Do you have any faves? And did they do well through the summer?

I'm not growing any bells this year but I am trying paprika peppers. I've never grown them before but I think they might be similar to the red bells.

I have had mixed success with bells in the past. In my experience they have to be shaded come summer or the fruits will sunburn.

Give them a little bone meal and kepl meal every month...should thicken up the walls. I also foliar feed weekly with fish and kelp. I have some bells going on their third year. They struggle in the summer but come back in the fall. Shade in the summer is necessary as Dan mentioned.

I think my 3 & 4 year old bells are toast finally. I forgot to cover them this winter and they aren't budding out. I bought 2 Big Berthas recently. The guy at Elgins told me they do well here and have nice, bigger fruit than others.
Has anyone grown this one?
Thanks for the suggestion for bone meal. I don't have any kelp meal tho. Mine get afternoon shade and usually produce pretty well thru the summer. But kinda small.

Big Bertha, huh. Never heard of that one but I'll look for it. I think my 3 y/o plants are about done. Same for the eggplants. This will be their third season.

Harold, I have never grown Big Bertha but remember hearing on the Veggie Forum at DG that they are good producers. Let us know how they do...
