Dan - Steak Sandwich wins the award for the first 'mater, and it's not even my earliest variety.

This is actually two plants. To the left is Zapotec from Jayne and on the right is Sioux from Dan. That latter has fruits but the light was wrong when I took these. Later....I'll try again

I have 5 Phoenix set on so far. It is hard to get a picture of them because they are way inside.

Very cool Jayne! I have lots of blossoms and will check again today for fruit. Most of my other maters have fruit so we'll see. Dan's Steak Sandwich was the first to set a fruit!

I have blossoms but no fruit yet. My plant is rather small and compact....about 16"-18" tall and sturdy.

Nearly all of my plants are showing leaf curl. I'm afraid that I may have a blight infection. The cherries and hybrids are not as bad as the heirlooms though so maybe there's room for hope. Peppers and potatoes have it too.

I did find 3 little tomatoes on one of the Phoenix. Can't get a pic - they're waaaaayyyyyyyy inside - lol... Dan - mine are short and stout as well and full of blossoms. I sure hope you don't have blight. Is there any hope once you get it? I'm not sure if I even know what is would look like besides the pics I've seen of late blight and the bullseye markings on the leaves...

Ugh Dan, that bites. All the work and energy that goes into gardening, to be cut off the knees like that really sucks. The last two years it's been grasshoppers that decimated my crops. This year, so far so good. Good luck beating it.

I don't know what it is at this time. Blight is a name that some one else suggested when I told them about it. I need to research it a little and try to pinpoint it.

I had an insect infestation a few weeks back that looked like black nats. A couple of treatments with insecticidal soap seemed to control it though. So it might be something residual from that.

I just went out to check mine. There is nothing to report. They look great. They have flowers, but no fruit yet. Mine are West facing and may need a bit more sun/heat to really get popping.

We had "something" with our Early Girls. Took a sample to Elgins and he said it was blight. Recommended dusting sulphur. Knock on wood, the 2 Phoenix and 2 Heirlooms are fine, but I dusted them anyway because they are all in the same bed. One Phoenix has several tomatoes already, the other just blossoms. Lots of foliage to shield the fruit from the sun unlike the Early Girls. Tried a photo of the Phoenix tomatoes, but only got foliage.
On another note: Our blackberries are beginning to ripen. The bees were busy and there will be lots more this year. Newcanes (for next year) are popping up all around there. Hope they are not going under the fence to the next door neighbor.
