Here is Dann_L's Sioux, planted Feb 20th. The Phx tomato from Kelly was planted 2-3 weeks later.

Red Alert from Dan - Dan, are these cherry toms? This scrawny little plant has produced 3 or 4 tiny little, hard green fruit.

They weren't advertised as a cherry. I have about 30+ fruits on my plant and they look like they will be the size of a large cherry to me.

That is a pretty scrawny plant....I'll take a few pic's and post them later.

The Sun Leaper from Jayne is near to Red Alert and it looks about the same. Mexicana, planted at the same time and about the same size is doing MUCH better. Very robust. Who knows?? All the same dirt - in the keyhole garden.

All the 'maters have some fruit. I'm hoping to get lots of fruit set before it gets too hot. Forecast to be cooler next week. I assume that means 80s...

Almost had a disaster in the 'mater bed yesterday. DH and I were putting up the shade cloth when one of the center support poles fell, straight down, into the 'mater and squash bed! It nearly missed the Phoenix and snapped several branches off the Red Brandywine. One branch that is loaded with fruit bent but did not break. I wrapped the damaged stem with a strip of old cotton t-shirt and secured it to the cage. I sure don't want to lose all that fruit - lol. So far it looks like it will survive for that fruit to ripen - fingers are crossed. It could have been a much bigger disaster had the pole fallen sideways instead of straight down... It would have landed squarely on about 8 'mater plants - yikes!

I know that feeling Kelly, I had a plank drop on a new seedling early in the season, I hope yours all survive and thrive. Mine, it was the Phoenix seedling, bounced back just fine. It's a heart stoppper though.

So far so good for the 'maters. The damaged plant is doing nicely. All my plants have fruit. I chalk it up to the unusual weather. I'll take every day under 90° that I can get. Picked the first 'mater today - a tiny delicious Sungold from Dan! DH said it was good. It didin't last long enough for me to even take a pic.

The Bloody Butcher and Dr. Carolyn are real sparse plants as far as leaves go and are loaded with fruit. May have to look at some additional shade for the DC to prevent sun scald. The BB is sandwiched amongst some monsters and should be alright...

I'll try and get some pics tomorrow. Steak Sandwich had the first fruit set but is not even blushing yet...

Oh, and I found my first nasty hornworm of the season - bleck! Now it's war!

Just got back from Parks where we had snow Wednesday afternoon. After a walk through my garden... I have a few tomatoes blushing but none even close to ready for picking. This is the worst tomato year I have ever had. My in the ground plants just sit there refusing to grow much. So I have tomatoes on small bushes. Years past my tomato plants have been 5-6 foot tall and covered with tomatoes. It's maddening...it is as if I forgot how to grow them. Not to mention I have an attack of russett mites. Waaaaaaaaaaa. My bucket plants on the other hand are doing much much better...maybe it is that go juice I add to the water. I am just going to have to console myself with the peaches I hid from the birds with my socks and the two trees full of almost ripe apples.

Dr. Carolyn - full over little 'maters but very sparse leaf cover. Could be an issue...

Couldn't really get any good pics of the others - too many leaves and the fruit is mostly inside the foliage. Good for sun protection - bad for photography...

Jeez Jayne, sorry about the mites and low crop production. You can come pick at my place. Best year ever for me, at least with tomatoes. All my pepper plants are as you describe your tomatoes....just sitting there, not muh of anything happening. It's the heat/cool thing I think. The plants are confused.

Is it ever going to stop snowing up there this year???

Kelly, everything is looking good. How do you preserve your excess tomato crop? Or do you just eat 'em all?
