I ended up bringing mine indoors too putting it in a south facing window .. cut off the horizontal leaves and the pointy spikes on the remaining leaves but didn't do anything with the serrated edges. Doesn't look like it stressed the plant at all. I have noticed a little kitty fur on one of the leaves so hopefully they got the message to leave it alone and told the other kitty to leave it alone too.

Kittys love to rub their faces on those type of plants. Seems to be a substitute for brushing. Around here, everyone has Aloes of some type, and cats just can't bear to walk by one without rubbing against them.

Time for a photo update of my pineapple:

Looks quite better this winter, staying on its usual south facing spot indoors:

An interesting growth at the center...could it be finally preparing the initial bloom making stage?

It sure looks nice and healthy. Since I don't have the nerve to trim it, ours is currently occupying a LARGE space in the greenhouse. Her "father" would be heartbroken if the bloom/fruit fell off or died. We did repot it in all of it's serrated pointy glory.

That is a strange thing in the middle of yours. Our bloom snuck up on us so I don't know what it looked like when it very first started. It's exciting though, isn't it? Hurray!

I had that worry too but ended up cutting off all the tips of the leaves as well as the leaves that grew somewhat horizontally. I never noticed any stress in the plant after doing this, so feel free to cut the point tips off.

@Tarev = very nice. I hope mine looks like that this time next year. Of course, I also hope my seed grown one is at least an inch or so by then as well. nodding It is SOOOOO teeny - about the width of 2 maybe 3 pinheads. Rolling on the floor laughing And praying for no damping off.

What ever happened to the "thing" that was in the middle?

Apparently that thing in the middle was just leftover debris from the city trees before. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

It's that time of the year..time to bring out my pineapple from winter hiding! Feels so good being able to freely spray and water this plant outdoors!

Today such a lovely day, temps at 77F and humidity low 35F:
Those leaves really grew long!

Center part seems alright!

It's old container is now occupied by my passiflora, thankfully there is still a spot beside it, and I found another container to park it in!

Tarev, I hope we're done with the yoyo temps! I'm thinking I can open the windows on the greenhouse now, as the nights have been above 49 for the last month. Hopefully, the March winds are done, and we'll get the April showers.

I think we still have one round of yoyo ovenights by midweek next week? But at least it is not going down anymore to the 30's range!

I have fully removed the foil plastic covers of my growcamp about 2 weeks ago since the rains are just sporadic anyways. Will be cleaning it out further so my orchids hiding indoors can go back inside the growcamp.

It's been like that here on the other side of the continent too. In the mid 80's one day than upper 60's to low 70's the next. I need to get me another pineapple plant!

Tarev - Looking good. Mine I started ~ July or August (I did not mark it Grumbling ) is looking good and I cannot wait to get it outdoors as well. That will have to wait. 30 tonight. Of course 75 by Sunday. We are on a yoyo as well. Last week one day was 80 and in like 30 hours we went to 26!! Sighing!

I was so proud, I grew a pineapple from seed. It last about 45 days and was cute. Then it keeled over. Grumbling

Oh coconuts! I grew up in the Philippines, and with lots of coconut trees there. They need lots of full sun and lots of water, high humidity to really thrive well, like the growing needs of banana plants.
