Neat! I didn't know they made babies after flowering and fruiting.

Yes, my procrastination is how this happened anyway. I would have tossed or composted the plant after I cut the fruit but I didn't get around to it before it had sprouted again. I don't really water it, I do sprinkle it with the hose in the spikes, like other bromeliads, and I mainly just ignore it. I moved it recently because I put some shade up and decided it wanted to stay in full sun. Now that the rains have started I'm not even using the hose on it anymore. There were times during the winter when the dirt it is in was completely dried out, but there was water in the spikes. Now, everything is always wet from the rains so we will see, maybe that will trigger it to fruit.

Oh yeah Thumbs up We have lots of rain in the summer, monsoons really. Usually in the afternoon or evening though with sunny mornings. Normally it is very dry with hardly any rain for the whole of the winter but this past winter we had rain at least once every week. An interesting change, I liked it. But... you know the kind of rains we have this time of year, much like in the Philippines. So much water in such a short time that it can't drain away as fast as it comes down. It's warm rain, not the cold stuff we had in Calif. It doesn't matter if you get wet, everyone wears flip flops or rubber sandals and short pants because you are wading in water if it is raining. The air and the sidewalks are really clean and fresh and anything that is wood like doors swell and are hard to close. Also, anything without air moving over it molds quickly, your shoes on a shelf in the closet, blankets in a box, etc. It's life in the tropics, I love it.

Rain in the tropics is really an experience to see itself. And that's why we got lots of pineapple farms there too Smiling

Yes, it's rain on steroids Rolling on the floor laughing I took another pic of the pineapple from the other side this morning and if you open it I think you can see where I cut off the previous one.

So just updating the status of my pineapple this early Fall season:
Shiny green leaves, older bottom leaves okay to look ugly..:

Looking down at the center..looks okay, no weird dryouts..seems a-okay!

Looks good .. I'm trying to figure out what to do with mine since it has a fruit .. I really need to cut the bottom leaves off so I can get it in the greenhouse but I'm afraid if I do that it might abort the fruit!

I don't have a clue! I also need to find out how much cold it can tolerate without aborting the fruit. We're into the low 50's now with highs in the mid to upper 70's. Pineapples are dangerous plants in an enclosed space being pointy and serrated.

I think you can cut off the bottom leaves, just leave it enough to get sunlight for the plant and the fruit. I used to keep mine trimmed when I had one indoors in Calif, for self protection and so it would fit on the shelf in the kitchen window. Maybe put some REALLY dilute fert in the cup to give the fruit some help. Keep an eye (and a finger) on the fruit to see if it starts getting soft or really yellow. They can ripen when really small like that if the plant is not getting enough light or food to sustain them. I had about a 4 bite pineapple ripen on my window sill one year.

Lol ... thanks for the info! Four bites huh? I guess I shouldn't expect it to get to the size you see in the grocery stores.

I think the fruit will be sweeter the more leaves you can leave on it, Anne. How about just covering it on cold nights with a cardboard box outdoors for a little while longer, and uncover it when it's warm and sunny? Or if you must move it in, just cut off the pointy ends of the leaves?

Fruit is sizing up and making sugar now, it looks like maybe another month or less before you can harvest it. Be sure to keep it protected from critters, too! Raccoons LOVE pineapples. Ask me how I know . . . Crying A real heartbreaker when you wait 2 years for a fruit.

Mine two are in and going well. Took a look to find tops. One rarely sees a pineapple with a top lately. I took off the bottom leaves where the roots are usually showing; soaked in water to get the roots bigger; and then planted.
