Dan,
You need a TV crew to document all of your projects. The "San Tan Dan's, This New House".

Ha Ha!

At the speed that I do things, they would blow their whole production budget before I got anything finished. Smiling

I've been working on the stone since last weekend and finished it yesterday.

This is my first attempt at stone work and I am very pleased with the outcome. It was like putting a puzzel together without a picture to follow.

Countertops are coming up next!

Thank you for your encouraging comments Ladies!

Like I mentioned above, the counter tops are the next step for this project but I have to keep the front yard landscaping moving along too. I better go and update that thread!

Its coming along great Dan. Really like that stone.
And it looks like you are timing this just right so you will do the coutner top when its the hottest part of the year.
Its what I did. LOL

I cant remember what you told me and Ken. Are you pouring in place or are you going to build forms on the ground.

Thanks Mary!

Timing is everything Ray!
I found some decorative edge moulds for concrete counter tops that will allow me to pour in place. They are a bit pricey but the counter tops will be the last big expense for this project and I want it to look good as well as be functional and durable.

I was looking at those forms too and just ended up going with 2"x4" forms.
On several trips after I poured the top I started finding all sorts of nifty things I could have used for the side forms.
One thing that grabbed my attention was crown molding and all the different patterns they had in them.
Just wasnt sure how the patterns would show up and if the aggregate would create a lot of voids.

I am constantly lingering in the trim and moulding section at Lowe's and Home Depot pondering the possibilities.

I have also considered building the forms and lining the edges with modeling clay and then, using one of the stones from the BBQ to impress the texture of the stone into the clay.

This has been a "figure it out as I go along" project and until I actually do it, there is always the possibility that I'll find something I like better.

LOL. Mine was the exact same way. "figure it out as I go along".
I finally just poured the dang counter top because I was changing my mind everytime I went in either place.
And as soon as you do pour the top you will find something you like better.

Really nice Dan! Isn't wonderful to live where we can enjoy our backyards all year? The BBQ really adds - it's beautiful! You ought to submit pictures of your backyard to the Harpers Nursery contest!

We used a french drain for the "out" part in our outdoor kitchen since greywater drains are okay in Maricopa cty.

Time for an update...

Between monsoon storms and extreme heat every weekend progress has been a hit or miss proposition this summer.

I got the concrete underlayment cut installed and then attached a half bullnose form all around the edges. Then I cut reinforcement wire and some threaded rod and got it in place and it's ready for the concrete.

Once the concrete had set for a couple of days I stripped off the forms and sanded some areas that needed a little smoothing out. Then it cured for a couple of weeks and the finish electrical connections were made. Yesterday I finished the prep work and today I applied the acid stain.

Next up will be a sealer coat and then install the equipment.
