And my lone bloom stalk of Frosted Velvet opened. The weird weather and excess rain wasn't kind to my back garden.

All beautiful. Your spuria NOID, though: Zoinks! I only have one spuria (also a NOID), and it's pretty homely, in my opinion. It grows really well here, though, so I'm getting a couple that I hope I will like better. How big is the bloom on yours?

Another cool morning with rain showers. Many bloom stalks are sulking...waiting for a little warmth and sunshine to open. Just a few this morning......
Brilliance...a really fine orange...will be nicer when fully open

Hawaiian Rain is gorgeous but it is the tallest thing in the bed and last year the stalks didn't stand up. We will see this year.....

Agree with Vi about Hawaiian Rain! Thumbs up And there is that lovely Samba Queen again!

@brettbarney73 I have many that are the dark purple, then a few lighter blueish purple. Always start growing in the fall, so their foliage gets killed in the winter, then they come back up and bloom around May every year. The Blooms are about 5 inches across. The only problem I ever have with them is that they tend to need to be staked up. The blooms are always too heavy for the stems.

Lovely blooms, Paul! I just returned to FL from Salt Lake, and did plant quite a few iris in my daughter's garden there. Some plants had buds so I need to bother them to send me some pictures when they open. Hoping to go back in July, and plant some more iris when they are dormant after blooming. Would that work?

All I've got here is Louisiana Iris 'Black Gamecock' just opening its first bloom. They are in water, so the water needs to warm up for them to bloom.

Elaine........Late July, August and Early Sept, are considered the best time to divide and plant iris here in Utah. Our sale and auction is Aug 2. Iris are very forgiving about when they are moved. We are having a show tomorrow in the Garden Center in Sugar House Park.

I'm debating with myself. I had decided to skip this show and just go and help but there are some stalks that look like they will be wonderful tomorrow. If I do I'll need to get someone in my family to put the shell on my pickup so I can get the stalks to SLC in the best condition. I hate having the shell on the truck because it limits my visablity. .....

Have you been involved with the "iris shows" for quite a while, Paul? Seems I remember seeing a clipping from "way back", concerning one of your "wins". I've never been to one, let alone entered anything, but, maybe someday! It's quite a ways to the "big city" for this country boy! The 'close by" plant societies do shows, and such, but not iris. Daylilies and Hostas are the "biggies' here, it seems....Arlyn

I've been involved in iris shows and other shows off and on since the 1970's. I think the article you mentioned is from 1984. Our shows are well supported by members making entries and we get good publicity so have a good crowd of the public attend. Part of the fun. Members of the UIS are nice people......I have been judging at the Floriculture at the Utah State Fair the last few years which is fun also.
