I have a very old tree peony, it was ancient when we moved into our house in 1981. It's right next to our garage and I need to move it because we need to tear down the garage and rebuild it. What is the optimum location for tree peonies? I want to ensure I give this geriatric plant the best odds for survival but have no clue how to care for it.

To not so mad First location well drained 6 To8 hours of sun Afternoon shade, dig a big hole amende the soil, add lots of leaf mold water well Now dig up the plant about 2feet from the centre-all around ,get as much of the root as possible. If you are going to divide it and I think you should, wash it so its easy to divide if not try to keep as much of soil around the root in tack ,plant it at the same level as before ,water well, mulch it ,give it shade till the fall. I would remove the first year buds, at least most of them, good luck .Make sure it doesn't dry out the first year (Do not over water ) By the way if you do not divide it ,prune it back take out some of the older branch's.
