I'm not sure if this is the place for Hoya questions. Maybe we need a houseplant section? It seems like somewhat of a tropical plant to me.

My question is, how can you tell if a Hoya is getting ready to bloom. My hoya plant is throwing out all these weird stems that don't have leaves on them. Is it possible this is where the blooms start forming. I've taken a close-up picture of one of the stems I am referring to.

Here is the whole plant. It's very healthy and growing like a weed. Sorry about the crappy pictures. It's hard to get a good shot in front of the window like it is.

Alan, Hoyas send out a long shoot and then they grow the leaves on it. That's a nice looking Hoya!!

*most* of them like to be good and pot-bound before they'll bloom.

Yes, usually they are shoots with leaves, but these are tips that are coming out and getting no leaves, and they have that funny knob on the end of them almost like a pine cone, but smooth. They have been this way for a about a month with no signs of leaves forming on them. They are all up and down the vine, generally coming out at the same joint as a set of leaves.

Yes, I will come and check out your hoya and houseplant cubit. The only houseplants I've been able to grow with some success are hoya (that never bloom) and african violets have always been a piece of cake to grow. Everything else houseplant I kill. Love rubber plants, especially the variegated ones, have killed every single one.

They could very well be bloom spurs (peduncles) forming. A clearer photo would help a lot...I've got Hoyas that have sprouted new branches at a leaf joint...

Yeah sorry, this isn't exactly a hi zoom camera I'm using Trying to get the highest def picture and then just focusing on the part your interested in. Here's one more attempt. The pictures clear but you still can't see the little knobbies on the tip that is bigger at the base and pointed yet rounded at the tip.

I can't be 100% sure, but I really think that's gonna be new leaves....I hope I'm wrong...

I have lots of new growth and leaves, and nothing that looks like this close up in several different locations along the vine. This looks nothing like the new leaves that are coming out and new stems with leaves. I hope your wrong too. I've been growing this thing for 3, 4, maybe 5 years, would be nice if it finally bloomed. :)

One other comment. I wish I could remember the name of this plant. I got it off ebay, and as I recall it's suppose to get big red flowers, very fragrant. Anyway, I've never saw leaves come out on the end of a vine. Always the vine stem takes off growing, and the leaves come out on the sides of the vine. I've never seen a leaf at the tip of the vine. Generally the leaves are at about 4 inch intervals.

Thank you Lee Anne, no real big deal, so don't go to too much effort. Was just curious more than anything. I am thrilled with the plant because it is surviving and healthy under my watch. I do great on outdoor plants, but not so much so on indoor ones...hehehe.

Hoyas are one tropical I've NEVER had the pleasure of trying... I'm sorry I have no input... sounds like Lee Anne was helpful though

Alan, those look like peduncles to me. I think you are going to have flowers. I use to grow Hoya's back in the day.

Time will tell... I know you didn't want that answer...but from the photos it is so hard to tell. Even in real life it is hard to tell....just takes time!!!!! Keep us posted!!!
