Gah, yes, that's at the big Home Depot right in the smack center of town. They're all the same, Singin' the Blues. That's the primary reason why I didn't buy any.. I already have 2. Secondary reason is that I may be moving & I don't want to put any more roses into my yard if I have to sell my home because of work.

PPal - Actually, much closer to you. Dallas - specifically, North Dallas. like probably around Plano area. But, I have no idea if it's gonna happen. It's greater than a snowball's chance, but right now, I'm at a complete & absolute standstill until I know what's going on.

Cindi - Yea, it's gonna suck the biggest almost in my entire life. I just got the house painted the way I want, the yard's actually starting to look mature & how I envisioned it like 6 years ago.. and then to abandon it???? Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling

Dis-budding a whole garden of roses is hard work. Who would have guessed ?

Oh, my thisa. Oh, my thata. Yikes.... fifteen more to go .... Crying All I have to do is find the willpower to get the last of them done. I've stopped counting the number of buckets I've filled with blossoms and buds.

My mantra is, "It's worth it".

Now, all I have to do is figure out how to move again .... Hilarious!

It's always something.

Lyn

It's done. Not a bloom or a bud in the garden.

The dang bugs almost appeared over night, They had already damaged all of the buds on the roses in the front tier that were just dropping their sepals.

The hard part is over. Now, just a daily patrol to check for new buds. I know I won't find any bugs ... Hurray!

Smiles,
Lyn

I have plenty of buds on most of my miniature roses, and a few buds on a few other roses (mainly like Perfume Tiger). But my Austrian Copper is LOADED and should be blooming probably next weekend.. my first roses of the season!! YAY!! Finished trimming all the roses in the front yard. Ended up filling up a 45gal garbage can 1.5 times with dead canes. Here's an example of what I have to go through every spring. This is my beautiful Sheila's Perfume.

Floribunda Rose (Rosa 'Sheila's Perfume')

And this is what it looks like today.

Every spring. This is what I have to do.. how much I have to trim down. And, as you can see, it's not canker or anything.. just plain ol' winterkill. That's why I love own-root roses so much, I don't have to worry about the rose coming back as someone else like Dr. Huey.

My first flush is almost done, ( killed a couple weevils today) but I didn't have too much damage, certainly nothing even close to last year.

Hi Sue ...

>>>My first flush is almost done, ( killed a couple weevils today) but I didn't have too much damage, certainly nothing even close to last year.

Good for you.

I got most of a first flush before I started dis-budding. It's beautiful seeing all of those undamaged blooms. The only ones I missed out on were those which hadn't started their first flush, yet.

All of the roses look very healthy, but they will all get larger and more foliage in the next few weeks as the plant energy that they can't use for blooms has to go somewhere .... Smiling

For me, dis-budding the roses is an investment in getting a clean first flush next year. It also helps the plants because they always end up with more foliage when the heat hits. I may feel like crying when I do it, but it is worth it.

Smiles,
Lyn

Too, bad. If it were canker, it would be easy to tweak a fix. Guess you'll just do the best you can given your climate.

Wow your roses get moving fast, don't they! I guess they are programmed for the short season so they don't mess around. Mine are blooming, but it's not the fabulous first flush I usually get because so many were cut back so low. My long arches of Dr. Huey are beautiful, and this year I will cut them out for good. It just seems so cruel to cut out a rose that is blooming.

Zuzu - Yea, Vineyard Song is just loaded with buds (first 2 pix) and Heinrich Karsch is as well (3rd pic). A few of my normal HTs have buds, one here & there. But almost all the minis are gonna bloom.. probably next weekend or so. Amazing how we went from snow to 80degs in 3 days. *sigh* My irises are just now starting their show, still have a few lilacs in bloom (James MacFarland is barely getting ready to bloom).. 3 weeks late this year persay normal.

Cindi - I do the same thing.. I wait to see who blooms as Dr. Huey, enjoy the show, then chop chop. LOLLLL

Lost a few more roses.. mostly Palatine roses. Don't know why. Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling But until I know what's going on, not replacing them with anything.

Anyone wanna come by help me weed? It's amazing how weeds go from dirt to 1' tall in about 2 days... Shrug! Shrug! Shrug!

Sure, if you'll help ME weed. Don't forget, I have weeds growing on five levels. When we are weeding one level, they are jumping out of the ground on all of the other levels. So, far, they are winning in spite of the mulching.

It looks like we're having a blizzard here today. The cottonwoods are throwing cotton everywhere. The ground is white! The roses are all fuzzy. Usually I'm complaining about the wind, but today there isn't enough wind to carry off the fluffs, so it just kind of hangs in the air. Too bad I'm not young enough to cut down all the cottonwoods and plant desirable trees in their place. Actually I have planted good trees, but I'll never see them grow as tall as the cottonwoods.
