Hi Songs. I hadnt looked at my avatar for a realllly long time. It was fun when I made it but now,not so much.
Persicaria is in a very well drained area. The astilbes in there may not make it but I bought the Pers. from Bluestone3 years ago. Its standing up to drought pertty well. We had a good rain 2 days ago so I cant remember if it was wilted before that.

Thanks Tee!

I have a LOT of trouble w/ mildew and so picked up 'Bright Eyes' due to it's Mildew 'Resistance'.
LOVELY Bloom and so far so good on the Mildew.... and as we've had 15 straight days of high humidity and 90°+ days mid 70's nights......

Here's two of the other Persicaria that I would suggest.

Persicaria orientalis 'Shiro-Gane Nishiki'

Thumb of 2011-07-31/Henryr10/07e171

and Persicaria virginiana 'Variegata'

GardenGus --- please try to keep that Zebrina malva in Indiana, will you? Don't let any of those seeds blow into Ohio!!! I spent YEARS getting it out of the garden, and still once in a while I see one pop up out of no where! Angry

Nope. It's basically a variegated version of “Kiss Me Over The Garden Gate” .

Janice , those are such beautiful blooms I am having an attack of zone envy Sticking tongue out

Juli,
Hard not to like this flower it is so expressive,

Thumb of 2011-07-31/gardengus/2f1080

But I do understand, I have a love hate relationship with violets. Love to see all the little faces in the spring and hate pulling them all the rest of the year.

P. incarnata 'Maypop' is hardy to -10º. It's decidious here in zone 6b (as well as in most zones where it grows) and will die to the gound in the winter in most places. 'Alba' is the pure white variety.
I garden for the pollinators.

Janice...that looks like the semi-evergreen 'blue crown' passiflora. I love it and it shows to be hardy to 6a. http://davesgarden.com/guides/... The long blooming phlox that really attracts butterflies here is the Carolina Phlox which is a TX native.
