Sheila, I like the look of Phlox but never tried them because always thought they needed a lot of water. Is that the case for the one you have posted here?

Debra, I've found a couple of varieties of tall Phlox that tolerate heat and drought well, Orange Perfection and David. Others I've tried in the hot, sunny beds with western exposure nearly died out there before I rescued them, but the 2 I listed have done well for 4 years now.

Evan ... the Maypop Passiflora grows quickly here. Farther South, it can be invasive, especially where it doesn't die back in the winter. Here it is somewhat aggressive but you can keep it in bounds like any strong-growing vine. In your zone, I think it would be nicely behaved. Having said that, I'd keep an eye on it.

The first picture, the P. incarnata is in the back of the shot. It was about 10" tall when I planted it there less than 2 months ago. It is now about 3 feet tall and spreading to the left, as you can see. That is something else across the top of the trellis so ignore that. The other shot is a division I took off that first plant at the time I planted it. It has grown in that very small pot the entire time and I sometimes forget to water it. That's how it has grown in 6 weeks in less than ideal circumstances. This is the purple P. incarnata. I have not grown the 'Alba', but I plan to next year.

Do you have a source for the plant already? If not, I'd be happy to send you the potted one in the second picture when the weather cools a little. If it ever does.

Wow, that's why my 'Peppermint Twist' phlox are not looking so great. Too much hot sun. I'll move them tomorrow. Thanks for the info, Neal. Big Grin

Oooh, just looked up Peppermint Twist and saw that's it's only 16" tall- I need that one! I saw them at a local grocery a few days ago. I'm too cheap to pay full price typically, but I may have to break down and get one :-).

Thanks Tee, for both the info. and the offer. I probably won't be ready for it this year but It's very nice of you to offer. You folks must really be getting beaten up down there. I've only watered my phlox once this year and other than the powdery mildew they're doing fine. Here's the one newish cv I have, lost the tag but it's a mini, maybe 2'.
