I think the most nurseries have to earn money;

so there is not enough time to look around if every labeled plant is correct.....especially because of the changeable appearence of semps;

but serious nurseries will be glad if customers advise them about wrong labels and change it;

Unfortunately I do know of one pretty good sized nursery that won't change their labels because they just don't care if the plant is labeled correctly or not. They're just out to sell plants.

I think that is a good reason not to buy there anymore... Grumbling

some time ago we told our german forum-user about the behaviour of nurseries - but you can only do that behind closed doors Whistling

That is true Peter.
I won't buy anymore plants from the nursery Chris is talking about. There are enough caring nurseries in business that we don't need to worry about where we will get our semps. Thumbs up

I plant only NOID's in the backyard because of that sweet little Koko, who loves to bury her toys in my beds Crying I just bought two big pots of NOID arach's to plant there. So it's like the graveyard of the unknown fallen semps. I like how freeing it is when a bird or worm moves a semp to just go "oh well, I'll just stick it here!" Unlike my front yard... there is one bed where some critter (worms, I think) insist on flipping newly planted semps up. I use old fashioned prong-like hair pins (not bobby pins) to anchor the semps down. On the larger ones, I slip it under the semp and anchor the roots. On the small ones I use it like a prone and anchor it down from the top. Sometimes they still manage to get them up, but this usually works really well.

Patty, that's a great idea with the "pinning" of the semps to help with security and stability of your plantings! Hurray!

I mix my knowns (w/their labels) and noids together in one bed and try to keep an eye on things staying straight. I haven't noticed any critters trying to re-arrange, just critters trying to fertilize my semps whether they need it or not... Grumbling

It's just frustrating to hear that something I've labeled after choosing it for it's color needs to have its label tossed (this brings to mind watching Lynn flinging a label over her shoulder after being informed that there was an imposter in her semp bed... Hilarious! )

Hilarious! With 14 beds of sempervivum and sedum, it is no problem for me to pull a tag up and remove it from the beds. Hopefully to find a new and loving home. Hurray!

I use a similar system Patty. I tried different ways to pin my semps because things were aggressively moving the small ones.

I finally came up with a system of cutting plastic-coated metal wire hangers (so they won't rust and so metal won't be directly against the semp) into 4"-5" pieces, bending them into a sharp U, and pinning a few outside leaves down. So far only one pinned semp has been moved and that's because the mystery animal actually pulled the bracket out of the ground.

I would've liked to have seen the crazy strong animal (squirrel?) that did that... Sticking tongue out

If you have crows, it probably is them!! They seem to love messing in my semp beds, and they sit and watch me working in it, and I know they're waiting for me to leave (I don't live there, so I really do have to leave at some point) and then next time I go there - sure enough several semps moved around...mostly they seem to mess with the same couple of semps so I just think its "cute" Shrug!
I love when I'm visiting somewhere and the person decides they need to get rid of a NOID and everyone else around is either not interested or too shy to speak up!! Sorry ladies - I'm not shy when it comes to semps! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Lovey dubby

Nope, I've never seen a crow in my yard. Only much smaller birds, squirrels, and rabbits.

One of them must've been hitting the gym. Sticking tongue out

Patty I do so bit by bit;

but 'Flamingo' I've checked out of order because I've seen the photo from Greg in another thread;

the most entries I've checked to date are correct and I only add or change some information about breeder or parents;

I've found some entries with names we've never heard in europe and mostly there is no information about breeder or origin; I won't care about them until they appear in germany; then I try to find out if there is only one correct clone in circulation and if someone may know the origin or breeder;

It is a great work that you are doing Peter.
And it is wonderful how many of our members have become sempervivum sleuths. It takes a caring team to do this kind of work.
Kudos to all that participate. Hurray!

Thanks! I was getting paranoid about how many NOID's were popping up so I'm glad to know it wasn't random. I tip my hat to you.
