As I read down and reached the second to last picture, I took a second look. No foo foo saute pan for Sharon. That thar is a skillet. I wonder how many years you have had it? I have wanted a cast iron skillet for years. My mother had one. Alas, finding a quality used one in California at a reasonable price is very difficult. They have become so trendy.

I enjoyed your article on asparagus. They are one of my favorite vegetables but I have never thought of cooking them quite that way.

You also shocked me a bit when I went to your web page. When I saw the new picture, I thought "Is this the wrong Sharon?" "Did someone steal her all things plants identity?" Nope, just a new picture.

Your error serves as a nice compliment to me. @Sharon writes about similar things and situations as I do concerning country life and ancestry. We both seem to share a love of the hills and simpler times in life. I can never get enough of Aunt Bett in her articles, nor the wonderful experiences she relates as a child. My ancestors too were of southern heritage and it has marked me forever because of its simplicity and love of all things plants (ATP). So in that respect we share a kindred spirit with most everyone at ATP.

The cast iron skillet belonged to my mother, and I know it is more than 75 years of age because it was likely a gift from her parents when she married my father. She (my mother) also passed along a 10" cast iron skillet to my wife (shown below) when we were married, and that one is about the same age. None of these 'high-tech', coated tin pans here.

So thanks for your error and interest which speaks volumes. By the way here is another favorite country stir in an #8 cast iron skillet. (That's real corn bread in the 2nd picture.)

Am I a case of mistaken identity yet again?? Only yesterday my own dog met me at the door with a snarl, thinking I was a stranger, but no doubt angry because I had no treat for her.

Thanks to both of you, even for the confusion. I love Leon's articles too, but I don't think he's as old as I am, so I reckon I do have the longest memory of the two of us. But Carl, if you are looking for a cast iron skillet, I might be able to find one for you; you just can't bake cornbread without an old cast iron skillet. And I think mine is blacker than Leon's.

I don't know about any of this @Sharon. Right now I feel about as old as Moses after a long day in the desert! To make matters worse the wind blew, it rained on us and we finished work about 7:00 pm. But then the sun did come out at the end and all seems well. I know I'll sleep well tonight.

I was pleasantly surprised by Carl's mistaken identity (and flattered that he thought my article was yours). But, when it comes right down to the bottom line, these old country skillets just can't be beat! Sleep well & have a nice week-end.

Get some much needed rest, Leon! I suspect the similarities are what makes us good friends.
