Just reading your post made me think , why does the pot have to be upright ? why not tip it on its side and have one of those spilling out pots? Water can not sit too deep in a pot on its side?
I would plant blue lobelia then white alyssum around the edge to look like water with soap bubbles spilling out Smiling

O course I know nothing about what grows in Texas so those plants are probably not suitable to your climate Shrug!

Cinda, both grow just fine in my area, and TK is about 80 miles southeast from here. Both are cool weather flowers, too, so timing is good. Smiling

Sounds like a fun idea. Right now, I'm painting edging and digging a trench. The rocks on the driveway have spattered over where I'm trying to do that. Very hard to dig around.

I'm asking all of you to vote by Monday which edging you like better. That with some brown, or all blue. I only have enough brown for every third piece.

Those are all roosters husband refuses to consider food, or useless. NOW, he is letting the hens that grew up after we put all the catchable hens in a coop, hatch more. Drives me crazy to listen to them. Doesn't bother husband, he's partially deaf, I think. Anyway, never hears anything I say to him.

I vote for #1also. Chickens could go either way. Maybe have both for a red, white and blue theme!

Thanks, and since you asked. I have maybe 4 main plant types that do very well in Northern Illinois roses, daylilies hosta and clematis. After 30 years of gardening this past season I was finally able to say by gosh, I actually like the way it looks. Still some sore spots (ideas welcome). May I show you?

Three summers ago this was the back yard. I like all of these plants but they didn't look good the way they were.
Thumb of 2014-12-07/Pattyw5/9ac728

So I moved all the clematis from in front of the evergreens along with the fence they grow on. Also moved many perennials to new spots. Made a rose bed back were clematis used to be. Put in a little path so I could reach the roses. The roses were gathered from other spots in the yard can't see them in this picture as they were still growing back from their move. Moved everything that was by the deck to make a red rose bed. I love red. For the first time I was able to get deep rich red Kordes roses that are also highly disease resistant. Threw in cheap annuals to look at white baby roses grew. Actually cheap annuals are not inexpensive anymore. Ended up with this.

Better I thought but not done yet. Since I love colors that blend well. In this the 3rd year and while still physically
able I moved every single daylily while they were blooming so colors would blend rather contrast each other. No pictures till next season. I'm excited thou and hopeful that I did good job. There are spots I need help with if you all don't mind I'll show you later so you can maybe give me ideas.

Mind?!? Patty, please post photographs. Any and ALL photographs. I, for one, love to see other gardens, both for their inherent beauty, but also to get ideas. Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Beautiful gardens--can tell you put in a LOT of effort. I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.
