Thanks, and since you asked. I have maybe 4 main plant types that do very well in Northern Illinois roses, daylilies hosta and clematis. After 30 years of gardening this past season I was finally able to say by gosh, I actually like the way it looks. Still some sore spots (ideas welcome). May I show you?
Three summers ago this was the back yard. I like all of these plants but they didn't look good the way they were.
So I moved all the clematis from in front of the evergreens along with the fence they grow on. Also moved many perennials to new spots. Made a rose bed back were clematis used to be. Put in a little path so I could reach the roses. The roses were gathered from other spots in the yard can't see them in this picture as they were still growing back from their move. Moved everything that was by the deck to make a red rose bed. I love red. For the first time I was able to get deep rich red Kordes roses that are also highly disease resistant. Threw in cheap annuals to look at white baby roses grew. Actually cheap annuals are not inexpensive anymore. Ended up with this.
Better I thought but not done yet. Since I love colors that blend well. In this the 3rd year and while still physically
able I moved every single daylily while they were blooming so colors would blend rather contrast each other. No pictures till next season. I'm excited thou and hopeful that I did good job. There are spots I need help with if you all don't mind I'll show you later so you can maybe give me ideas.
