A fun shot of my resident pair of cardinals, hogging the feeder while the dove waits for a turn.

I had to go back more than a year to rescue this thread but as I was misting orchids this afternoon, a big wood stork landed at the lake shore and began to look for supper. I already had the camera in hand so I quietly snuck out for these photos:

I'm glad you found it too. Not only for the pictures, but I noticed that last March, my season rain total was 3.something inches. This year I'm way ahead of that with 5.89". Makes me hopeful. Big Grin

This is me with a little Screech Owl being rehabbed. Smiling They have such fuzzy little round heads when they are babies. I love birds dearly.

A hummingbird flew around my head today while I was dead heading the butterfly garden plants. I froze completely and he wasn't too worried about me.

That is such an awesome shot, Kate. Love the little owl. Jim your wood stork pictures are fabulous. Today must be "Bird Day" because I saw a bird this morning that I only see about once or twice a year. My Rosy Breasted Grosbeak stopped by, and wouldn't you know I didn't get a picture of him, but I'll keep an eye out and if he has not continued his migration trip yet, maybe tomorrow I'll get a picture. He's really pretty with black and white plumage and a really red 'rosy breast'.

My hooded orioles have decided this is their home, I guess. Still can't get a photo of these skittish birds, but Mom and Dad just showed up with 3 fledglings in tow. Showing them the hummingbird feeder, the lily pot, and the bird bath. Must be about time to kick them out of the nest. I watched one play in the water lily pot for 5 min. , but as soon as I turned to get the camera, he disappeared. They'll probably be gone soon, but I expect I"ll see them back next spring. I'll sure miss them! They are the most colorful (aside from hummers) bird we have around here.

Here are some of the birds from my feeders...

An interesting bit of info a friend shared with me....if you're tired of squirrels and Blue Jays emptying your feeders every 10 minutes, use safflower seeds! I've never had a squirrel touch my feeders and only see a Blue Jay on them very rarely.

For three years in a row now a pair of owls has used my porch (and the ficus right next to it) to fledge their 3 babies...it's so exciting when they show up! For the most part they don't even mind me setting up tripods or climbing on chairs to take their pictures either! These are all from 2014 (I haven't uploaded this years yet!)

I LOVE my owls too! I'll get the pics from this year up soon.

Yes, my avatar is Purple Splash...last time it bloomed. It's one of my favorites and a faithful bloomer.

Thanks for the welcome! Smiling

I live in a condo where HOA is like police, can't feed the birds or have my orchids on the porch..etc, so I gave you an acorn for reminding me of the bird thread here. You will need some to put up your patches! And you will love it here, post your orchids in our threads then if names are correct you can post in database if you feel the need to. Rarely do I, my pictures are from my iPad and not the clearest.

I think maybe Bert means badges, not patches. Those little icons in the upper right corner of our posts. You can buy them using your acorns. We each have our region, the plants we are especially interested in, and other interests like birds, cats, dogs, wildlife etc.
