I wonder if it was a hummingbird. They have learned to punch holes with their beaks into the sides of flowers to get to the nectar .. I see this a lot with brugmansia.

I'd not ever seen that type of damage to a MG flower, Alana. What perfect little holes.

I'm going to watch, Anne. That's an idea. I have quite a little troop of hummingbirds. Obviously the damage was done before the flower was fully open. There were a dozen flowers open on that vine this morning, but just one with perforations.

My Keniaki Ipomoea obscura is making flowers now. What a nice yellow it has in its flowers.

Loverly Joseph. I like Ginro, too.
This is a subtle beauty from Emma she calls Gray Twilight. The photo captures the byplay of grays and lavenders very well but omits the shimmery quality that gives it life.

I'm so envious .. this has been a terrible year for just about everything .. I don't know why. The MG's are only blooming sporadically and I don't know why.

The first picture is Purple Silk ... I crossed a Red Silk and Blue Silk. I think I was hoping for a bi-color.

I wanted to ask if there is a formal morning glory 'society' that has a database of registered names like the AHS has for daylilies?

Here is the first unopened bloom on my exotic rare morning glory. First year with this variety. First mg in my new house too.

Awesome Imaeus! Don't be expecting flowers that look like the one on the package. The Double Blue Picotee is one of my favorites and the majority of your blooms will probably be singles ... when it does decide to double, it can produce some really awesome looking mutants. Over the years with selective hand pollinating I've developed a strain that almost always produces mutants.

The first picture is of the normal single ... the rest are some of the mutants.

Purple silk is very pretty, Anne.
Imaeus, looking forward to your photo with open flower.

Nice one Alana - the thing about big floppy Japanese MG is I'm always itching to get the iron and starch out.

Are the petals kind of thick and waxy? Looks so much like the Fuji X Kikyo cross

I think the petals are normal texture. I do not know the parental history, only that they were Japanese parents.
