I'll be attending my first daylily show this June. Will there be daylilies for sale there or just ones on display?

Yes, at some (maybe most or all?) AHS shows it seems they either sell or auction daylilies. I don't know this first-hand, just from having seen sell lists on Google from some of the regional sites that held shows. So, if you can search out a website for the group that is sponsoring your show they might even have a list that you can research cultivars on ahead of time. At least that is how it appears from having google-visited those sites. I'm sure others will be able to fill in the picture better from first-hand experience. Thumbs up

If you are going to the one in Cincinnati, OH then there show contact info is listed here, you can email the chairs and them. http://www.daylilies.org/Exhib...
You can also go to the club website for info and other contact info http://www.gcdhs.org/index.htm...
They have a list of hostas for sale for the Hosta Show (which was yesterday) so maybe once they get settled from that they will update the website and have the list of daylilies for sale as well.

I'm hoping someone will have "Thundercat" for sale. Smiling I have one last hole in my new daylily bed for it.

Oh yum, that first link of Michele's shows a gorgeous daylily flower arrangement in vase that I just love - lucky you if you get to see some like that! Looks like the Hosta-Daylily group's site, in the second link, has a vibrant and very active number of enthusiasts.

Even if someone doesn't happen to bring Thundercat to the show, you may find someone who has it "back at home" to sell, or knows someone else who does. Could be a neat way to add on some local garden visits? We'll cross our fingers that you end up finding it to fill that spot in very soon.

Group hug

I'd imagine just about anywhere one encounters daylily growers, a sale is possible (to help feed the addiction)

Anna,

Yes there will be daylilies for sale (0ver 150 different cultivars)....most are $5( what the general public will pay for a bareroot daylily) with one smaller section of more expensive daylilies (usually $7-20 range). I am afraid Thundercat will not be for sale as there are several club members still trying to acquire it themselves and it is still going for over $20 ( Gossard sells it for $35 DF) I have it but only have 3 or 4 fans as it was new to my garden fall of 12 or spring of 13.

PROMISE you will love the show and might see a few you did not even know you wanted!!! Rolling on the floor laughing

Well, if there's no Thundercat, maybe they'll have my second choice "Wild and Wonderful". (I talked my husband into lifting his "No more daylilies this year!" order for the show and I even talked him into giving me a bit of spending money for it!)

Hurray! Turn him upside down and *shake* him till it rains daylily dough - what a rare chance to get awesome cultivars for $5, and to let the blooms shine unfiltered right into your eyes - until you have found the ones that are meant to come home with you. Hilarious!

We'll want to hear all about it! The show ... not the shake-down ... yeah, I know, you'd never do that. But I would! Whistling

Hope you are bringing your battery-charged camera with you! Hurray!

Daylilies
Can't speak for other parts of the country, but down here in AHS Region 6 (TX, NM), it seems that all daylily clubs have (at least) one sale per year (typically in early spring or fall - best planting times for bare root fans here), but it doesn't seem common for there to be a sale at the show (if they hold a show). So, I'd make contact with the club/organization that's sponsoring a show before definitely assuming there would be plants for sale there.

There will be at this show! Hurray!
GCDHS does a plant sale to the public with our show ( mostly $5 daylilies)
Then a plant swap and sale of adopta plants later in the year at a club meeting.

I hope you liked the show Anna! It was smaller than normal this year but there were some awesome blooms! Would love to see you show next year.

My 14 year old daughter did well with 3 purples and 2 blues.

I did not take many pictures but those I did take are on my camera so I need to download them to my computer (I am on my tablet right now). I may need to wait till tomorrow to share them - soooooo tired but happy Green Grin!
