Mine got one inch tall and died. I would love a red. Maybe a sombrero would be nice since I just want a red. Rolling my eyes.

crittergarden said:I found them at Territorial Seeds.
Park and Territorial both sell 15 seeds for way too much money.
Territorial sells 50 seeds for not much more than the 15.

Edited to admit that I did not do the math well! LOL
Nonetheless, I will be ordering 50 seeds.

Rolling my eyes.

Annette Hot Papaya is a tissue culture plant and will not come true from seed.

Clint how did your Sombrero's do for you. None of mine over wintered and a few others who tried them in this area had same results. All of the Cheyenne Spirits did come back , but I notice that the yellows are way behind the other colors.

I have had my Sombrero plants for over three years. They are awesome. They should be exactly like Cheyenne Spirit. They were selected from the fields where Cheyenne Spirit seeds are made. They are basically selections of Cheyenne Spirit plants. We had temps down to zero this year. Both Sombrero and Cheyenne Spirit did well.

Bob,

Thanks for letting me know about Hot Papaya, I'll see if I can find it locally, before trying the online nurseries.

Found this Cheyenne Spirit today. Hope it doesn't fade to too pale a color. They also had one that was more of a gold.

I have the Sombrero Sandy Yellow and that has not faded at all. I just love it. Sunrise and Cleopatra faded real bad, the next day or day after that they were white. LOL.

I do not know what variety this purple cone flower is. I sure would love some help identifying it. Any ideas? It is extremely vigorous and looks good with the rudbeckia that opens and weaves through it soon after the coneflower blooming starts. This purple coneflower is over 3 feet tall. I was starting this garden and someone gave me a little clump 6 years ago along with the rudbeckia. Thanks everyone.

It's beautiful!! Looks like a double row of petals on some of them and I just love that. In the bottom picture what are the little red ones? Looks like one I am getting ready to order called Sombrero Salsa Red. Drooling

A purple coneflower sport (from Magnus), very old
Thumb of 2014-06-29/jmorth/d7b50d spooned petals
This sport was from before the big Coneflower craze became evident, I sent pic to one of the Echie breeders for consideration. They actually replied and said they liked it but only wanted to proceed if I could duplicate the form in a different color. There went my dream to claims of fame.
