Thanks Bob. The Dallas Morning News was coming to review my garden, she could not believe anyone in Dallas could grow almost 300 Hostas. So I hired some guys to help me spread the mulch I bought at the home Depot. The next day I saw the change taking place. I was never so embarrassed when they got out here. And I was in tears. I had seven Japanese Maples out there and they eventually died too.

That's so sad that you lost your lovely Hostas. What was wrong with the mulch?

The Extension people told me emphatically that it was the mulch. The mulch was formulated to kill weeds. Maybe I didn't read it.

If not for my Texas DG buddies I would not have gotten my garden together. In 2008 I had to have a hip replacement. I was never in so much pain and at that time I lived in a town house with lots of stairs. My landlord let me move into one of her duplexes. These guys were awesome! I was in so much pain and had to walk with a cane and taking those pain pills I was out of it. It was too much going on for me. I had a 800 sq ft of all kind of plants, about 100 or so pots. I had a raised bed that went around the perimeter of the court yard. Pat, one DGer came with a horse cart all the way from Houston . They moved every pot and dug up every plant they could find and moved them to the new place. when I left there, it looked as if I was never there. All I could do was cry, I was so humbled. Smockette stayed at my place . My back yard was laden with pots and plants. Again...still on pain pills,, after the surgery they came and helped me put down the irrigation system. I don't remember how I got all those plants in the ground, still in pain I went to the IOWA ROUND UP, the coldest place i ever been to in my life and I lived in Connecticut for ten years. lol I bought so many Hostas there they had to ship them to me. lol
Anyway the Hostas are gone, but my DG friends are still around ... I miss them so much because I cant get around as I use to.... but there is Facebook ... thank God! Hurray!

Dear Citysilvia, I feel your pain. My rock garden that I posted as problem #2 in this forum was destroyed by our local utility company as part of a city construction project less than 6 months after I received a community award for it. I took them to task and they had to restore it, except you can't really restore mature landscaping. I cried all summer and am still sick about it. I can imagine you are too. I hate to lose anything, but when it represents that much blood, sweat and tears, it is really devastating. I'm so sorry!

I have learned to appreciate some forms of insect life that are beneficial to gardens, but slugs are just plain
yucky, gross, icky, nasty, slimy, Thumbs down Grumbling
