ATP Podcast #62: Vines and Climbers

By dave
June 25, 2014

It is Vines and Climbers week at All Things Plants, so today we're going to talk about these climbing friends of the garden. What kinds of support structures do we like? And what are our favorite vines that we recommend to other gardeners? Are there vines that should be avoided? We'll talk about all that and more!

Hey, my ears were burning! Hilarious! Brad and I were listening to the podcast on my cell yesterday as we were sitting at the San Francisco airport waiting for the arrival of his parents. When I heard that part about the clematis pruning tip article you said I wrote, I laughed, but you had me fooled for a second, my memory is bad, did I write something and forget?! Hilarious! Nope, I didn't! Green Grin!

Anyway, here is my original post when we created the satellite dish gazebo. it's has only 4 poles.

It's slow going getting something up and over, so far I have a Lavender Trumpet Vine (Bignonia callistegioides) in the front left pole, and the back left Cross Vine (Bignonia capreolata) is finally to the top. The right sides each have a clematis but those are still small. I have a large Graham Thomas rose on the right side that has reached the top now, it's planted between the poles.

@Dave, I noticed you removed the BBCodes for the plant entries but that the URL links ork the same.
And the bar color has changed for enlarged photos to yellow.
What else am I missing? Green Grin!

That really is a great structure, Sue. I love it! Thanks for sharing the link to the original post. Thumbs up

Since the URL works I figured the BB code for the plant itself isn't needed anymore. I always just copy and paste the direct URL and let the system convert the URL to the right code. Much easier that way. Smiling As for the bar color, that's kind of a tiny bit outside my control. I used a third party piece of software to make the popup dialog boxes and that means I got their colors. I might change them to green sometime. Smiling
