I like to follow the requests for plant ID.
Only problem for me is that once the thread is marked solved/identified, sometimes I still don't know which ID was correct. Even if I were to re-read all the posts in each thread sometimes I still don't see the answer.

Using this example of a recent ID:

chickhill posted a thread for an ID of an Alabama plant:
The thread "Alabama plant I D help" in Plant ID forum

Horntoad suggested: Baneberry (Actaea rubra)
NJBob suggested: White Doll's Eyes (Actaea pachypoda)

The thread was marked 'identified' by chickhill, but which is it, A. rubra or A. pachypoda?

Is there some way to edit the first post in each thread to indicate which ID was the accepted one?
Thank You!

I see that she uploaded her photo to the database entry for A. rubra

Thank you. Thank You!
I was only using that thread as an example (and when I composed my question there was no photo identifier).

My question was intended to have a way for others to know the identity that was decided for each solved thread.
Perhaps some uniform way to 'end' the quest and share the answer.

It's not feasible to change the title of each thread, but perhaps the original poster could edit the first post?

Good idea Greene ... It would be nice if we could click on that area that says Mark as Solved, Finished or Expired and type in the name of the plant when we get an ID. I think some folks probably forget to go back and mark their thread when it is finished. I try to remember to close mine and I have marked some of mine solved if they sit out there too long with not being able to find an exact ID.

This is why we can't count on people to go back and actually specify what the ID was. Reading the thread will have to suffice.

Reading through the thread is a fine pastime for a rainy day, but it does not always indicate what the original poster accepted as the 'correct' identification.

As far as the original poster not remembering to mark their thread as solved/identified, perhaps there could be a 'friendly reminder' notice after 30 days (or whatever time frame) sent to their T-mail box. Shrug!

(I will now go back through the ID forum to see if I am guilty Whistling .)
