I have two Ginkgos that have survived three winters here in Zone 4. I'd be interested in rooting cuttings from it.

I'm going to propagate this larger cane of my Dieffenbachia 'Reflector' tomorrow. It's gotten really tall and shed bottom leaves like Dieff's tend to do as they age. I'm hoping to get several plants from it

I started a tray of new Monkey Puzzle suckers and gingko.

My last batch of Monkey Puzzles failed. I consulted with the Horticulturalist who has been helping me and really peeled the stems this time.

Half the gingko cuttings have heels and half are elongating shoots. The book doesn't say anything about using heels but thought I'd try.

Lucy68 said: Well, no I wasn't trying to make up my own rules. It was a serious question.

Grafted trees are put on older rootstock to get a jump on production age. I was just wondering if (for instance) someone managed to start an apple tree from a cutting, would the apple tree be old enough to produce as a seedling. Or, as you would use a tip cutting so new growth, the clock is set back to zero.

I have a soft pear I started from a cutting off a very old tree. It is now almost 3 years old and has yet to flower.
I have found that coffee, tea, and rose can all agree on one thing... water everyday.

I was able to successfully propagated a variegated sport of my pink hibiscus. So I have a rooted cutting that is variegated on one branch and non variegated on the other branch.
I was also able to successfully propagate the cuttings from my yellow tree hibiscus. I am excited about it because my yard needs more yellow blooms.

I am currently propagating my peperomia Camerata. The first leaf was a success. It started popping up new babies just like an African violet does. It took about 6 weeks. Well I love to propagate and really like the peperomia. So I started about 10more leaves in their own little pots. I gave them all about 8 weeks but no babies. I finally started checking them to discover the leaves had roots on them but still no babies. Can anyone explain to me why the first one popped up babies but all the rest only grew roots. This is a picture of the first leaf. Thank you for any explanation about this.

Gigi, I'd love to see some photos...

Agoo, just a thought... Maybe you should be more patient - eventually those rooted leaves will grow plantlets. I have discovered with African Violets that the length of the petiole plays a role. The plantlets grow from the base of the petiole: roots down and plantlets up but roots are always first. Also, the time of year plays a role - I don't even try to root leaves in winter. And last, did you take the new leaves from different plants? I have a couple AVs that are really slow to root anytime of year. And last thought... the age of the leaf is important. Leaves at their prime are best.
As long as the donor leaf is firm and green, there will be plantlets eventually. Just some thoughts.

Had to chop this Monstera subpinnata. Noticed it was blooming on about 4 ft of vine hanging off the support at 12 feet with nowhere to go. Now I can start a mature bloom size vine from the ground up

LUCY68, I ONLY HAD 1 Pepprmia to take the leaves from. All the leaves were taken from the outer edge of the mother plant. The first one that produced the babies were done about 6 weeks before all the rest. You have brought up some interesting points to consider. Am very happy the rest are rooting and will eventually produce babies like the first 1 did. Thank you.

I wouldn't have guessed it is a monstera, the leaves look like a palm. Whistling

The genus Monstera has a lot of variable plants. Like most Monsteras, subpinnata is a vine that climbs

Does anyone grow the Baby Sun Rose? It's a type of succulent and so easy to propagate by cuttings.

I stay away from succulents. I am the kiss of death for anything like that for overwatering. I admire other people's thought. I grew a lot of them in Los Angeles. They liked it there

I used to have one but our hot humid summer killed mine! They are easy to propagate.

Gina, you have such a variety of collection that we can't grow here. I tip my hat to you.
