How do I get my lilac bushes to bloom??? Please !!!

What are your growing conditions, please?

Are these first-year plants from a nursery or cuttings?

If older plants, did they bloom in past years but not yet this year?

Are the leaves green and healthy, or few and yellowing or damaged?

Photos might help.

(I doubt that I can give good advice, but the people who DO know the most need information to make a good guess.

They are beautiful and green never bloomed are in ground For five years

We really do need pictures. There are a lot of factors that might explain why those bushes aren't blooming yet.

Where in the country are you? Lilacs really need a lot of winter chill to bloom well.

What is the soil like? Are they planted near any trees? Near a road, on a hill or in a depression?

Do they get sun? Half a day, morning or afternoon? Do your neighbors have lilacs that bloom?

Also, have you pruned them? Typical of haphazard pruning efforts, people often prune off the developing inflorescences.

Not enough sunlight?
Too much nitrogen?

Can you provide photos of the area where they are planted?
And give the estimated hours of sunshine that the plants receive?
Which climate zone are you? Which country?

Crazy question, but are you sure they are lilacs that you planted?

So right, Lori. Lilacs need to be pruned after they bloom. If you prune them before, you will get no flowers. That could be the answer, all right!

Btw, in most of the country, the lilacs bloom in May, or June at the latest. It's most likely too late to expect them to bloom this year, unless you got a variety that re-blooms. They are a fairly recent introduction.
