Thanks, Jim. Soooooooooooooo, Potinara is no longer a viable term? Sticking tongue out

I find it odd that so majority of the Blc. plants are now Rlc. and now the majority of the Pot. plants are also Rlc. This nomenclature stuff can quickly drive one crazy.

Ken, perhaps this will help: http://www.manateeorchidsociet...

Also remember that names ending in "ara" are used when there are more than three genera used in an orchid's makeup. In the case of Potinara, 4 are used so a change in any of those will affect the Potinara name.

Don't let it bother you, Ken. Although I appreciate you are trying to be responsible and sell your plants with the correct names on them, I'd venture to bet the vast majority of people you sell your plants to are like me, and really don't care.

If I buy a plant from you, and you include a sticky note saying "this plant is now aka (or "officially" known as) Rhyncholaeliocattleya - - - - etc. " that would more than please me. I'd then also have the old name, so I could look it up easily in my "old, out of date 2007" books. I really enjoy reading in bed about orchid care and falling asleep over a nice book.

Jim's namesake, B.nodosa 'Big Jim' is going to town opening blooms. It has 3 spikes open now and at least 4 more ready to pop. Sadly, in this hot, dry weather the flowers aren't lasting very long.

Mm, he ruled so much his picture got into that post twice, Sorry all! I fixed it. Note to self: Must remember to preview when I post pictures Rolling my eyes.

Hope all of you have seen the contest going on until tomorrow where you get double acorn rewards for comments on plants in the database?

The thread "Bonus acorns for comments, and a contest by zuzu!!" in Plant Database forum

Speaking of the database, Ursula, are the names in the ATP Orchid database being updated? The entries have options for alternate names, which means we can at least leave the old names in for search and reference purposes.

I love the David Sander bloom. I don't have one yet. However, I am growing a nodosa that I deflasked years ago. One seedling survived and it is finally taking off.

Here is Gastrochilus japonicus. Didn't bloom very well this year because of the stress of moving to the GH, but I feel sure that it will really take off now. All of the 1/2 shade heavy water orchids are LOVING the wet wall. That was the best idea that I had for the GH.

It's a wealth of good info, and plant names, Jim. You should take a look. I'll bet you'd use it when you're manning the phones over at Extension once in a while. I do.

Some news from the OC: Mclna. Yellow Star (Oncidium Cornelia (1915) x Brassidium Gilded Urchin) has a new spike and is flowering nicely. Also of note, the latest name change says it is now Brassidium [brsdm] Yellow Star. I had better hit the send button before it changes again.

Here is the Bct. Jack Sloniker that I just got back from AOS judging. It didn't win anything but they liked the color. Me too. The last one of these that won an award had 7 flowers on it so I have a ways to go.

Good question. I check her forum every so often, but I don't see any indication that they might have moved by now.

I took this little plant inside to snap some pictures, it was a bit breezy this morning for this one not to be totally wiggled.
