Hi Jim,

I just love your binosa type Catt! That is an awesome bloom. Even though that is not my fav color, it is so intense! I bet binosa is in there somewhere. I'll have to look it up on Orchids Plus.

The wet wall was my brilliant idea for our GH. We grow a lot of Dendrobiums that have natural habitats receiving 20" of rain per month June/July/August/September. So I decided to have hubby build a tall wet wall right down the middle of the GH for all of the mounted orchids that get lots of water. The East side gets the 1/2 shade wet orchids like Dens, Aerangis, Phal equestris, etc. The West side gets the 3/4 sun wet orchids like some of my catts, oncidium, vandaceous types. I have to say it was really my best idea for the GH. It is AWESOME. The growth on these orchids is taking off like crazy.

Here is the Bct. Jack Sloniker that I just got back from AOS judging. It didn't win anything but they liked the color. Me too. The last one of these that won an award had 7 flowers on it so I have a ways to go.

I like yours better than the awarded for color. The awarded was green with the patterned lip. My guess is that the form is off a bit. The petals reflex a bit back. Maybe the bloom was older? I think you will get an award on this one...it is only a matter of time. Gorgeous!! Drooling

Jim, when you are on OrchidWiz again, check and see if there is a way to enlarge a picture copied from that site. A 250x250 pixel picture is about 1/4 the optimum size to use. If I double the 250x250 size to 500x500, I will lose sharpness. Perhaps OrchidWiz allows one to enlarge pictures without that loss of sharpness.

Thanks.

I don't see any instructions for capturing pictures from OrchidWiz. My experience is when you copy a picture from an internet site, it is what it is. There is no way that I know of to enhance resolution if the pixels are not already present. For my presentations, I only use pictures that are 1,000 x 1,000 or better or they look terrible when projected onto a screen.

Yep, me too. 1000 pixels minimum. I did find another picture of that orchid, and it came from AOS Orchids Plus. The name is C. Peter's Creek 'Ponkan' and the plant/flower has been awarded AM/AOS twice. I guess when the orchid is submitted for judging, one gets to name it? I see that the two awarded plants were from two different people and each of the two put their names on the orchid. The 'Ponkan' was just the best picture and was the first to be awarded. They look like identical (lineage) plants.

Yes, you get to name it and pay $36.00 for the privilege.

Isn't it confusing (speaking just of C. Peter's Creek) when identical plants have two different names and each have an AM/AOS? Which name does one use when a label simply says "C. Peter's Creek"?

That's why OrchidWiz and others pay no attention to clonal or variety names. C. Peter's Creek is just fine unless you have the correct information to add the variety and awards.

Aerangis luteoalba var. rhodosticta finally bloomed. I love this orchid. We have three. Also Bulbophyllum pecten-veneris (formerly tingabarinum) is nice and not a stinker.

So pretty, Melissa. Love that sweet Aerangis.

Repeats here, I know but I have been out on the bay running sailboat races for 2 days and came back to a lovely surprise, my B. nodosa 'Big Jim' has no less than 7 spikes open today and more to come. Naturally they are on opposite sides of the plant so tough to get them all in one picture. The scent led me to them last night, heavenly.
